A busy Wetherspoons could bring about 1,000 people a day into the town centre - where businesses are literally dying. This fine company rarely fails, when it decides to make a planning application!

The Assembly Rooms Wetherspoon - in Epsom - has revitalised the Clock area. A high percentage of shoppers to the town, Ashley Centre etc., lunch there. They sell a lot more food than drink. NO - is silly, Dorking needs progress¡¡ Or more of our famous antique shops....!

I totally agree that a Wetherspoons anywhere in Dorking is undesirable having had personal encounters with its effect on Guildford, but that this is a ridiculous location so close to residential accommodation & meadow bank

I don't feel this is a good location for a Wetherspoon's due to the potential noise and disturbance to local residential use, difficulty of policing, and impact on local businesses.

Commercially, Dorking is dying - as can clearly be seen walking down the High Street, South Street or West Street. Yes a nice place to live - but people go to Guildford, Epsom or Kingston to do their main shopping. And a Wetherspoons would dramatically improve footfall from early morning, with a number of bus stops nearby. With the new White Horse opposite, this central part of the town could have a new lease of life.

Opening a Weatherspoons next to our childrens library and round the corner from the playground is just appalling. Shame on you Surrey Council if this goes ahead!

Definitely not needed. We have plenty of good established pubs in Dorking. A Weatherspoons in St Martins Walk will only create problems and may well deter people from going into The shops, particularly from the car park at the rear.

Calm down Bob m8 - we're discussing a pub, not a war zone!¡ You are entitled to your opinion (one), but seem to forget that Dorking is dying as a commercial centre - and it may already be too late to restore it. West Street antique shops have had their day and a new approach is urgently required. With c1,000 outlets in about 30 years, Wetherspoons have a proven track record in pub management - and will be a welcome addition to the town.

We have enough pubs in Dorking. Another pub, especially in St Martin’s, foreshadows a repeat of the Malthouse Mill pub scenario. Only a stone’s throw away the pub was finally closed because of gatherings of youths and scenes of “public disorder and crime related incidents” Residents and police objections strongly opposed anti-social behaviour and noise especially on Friday and Saturday nights. The children’s playground at Meadow bank, which was primitive compared with its present status, was regularly littered with broken glass and junk. NO, NO, NO to any commercially leveraged project that even remotely could regenerate rowdy and unwanted anti-social behaviour.

Wetherspoons is just not for Dotking, in the form that they want. Dorking is a small market town and the size of the proposed development is just too large.

My main objection is use the many empty buildings/shops there are already in the town. Don't close down small independent shops and move into an area where there are a lot of residential homes.

High Street everywhere is changing fast. West Street antique businesses were fine, for our parents and grandparents. Dorking - if it is to survive - must embrace change, new businesses and ideas. Wetherspoons will be a breath of fresh air - to cavelike thinkers, who hate Box Hill cyclers, as well¡¡

It's not cynical for the UK's largest and most profitable pub chain to endeavour to maximise the return on their large investment, which will generate footfall and jobs for the town. The Surrey Yeoman, a failed business, doesn't fit the Wetherspoon business model. And it is noteworthy that the petition against still hasn't made its modest goal - in about three weeks!
