We need to support independent local business in Dorking not chains

1. There is no reason to put a wetherspoons pub next to a public library - which caters for children and the general public.
2. Why penalise the local businesses that already reside on that spot?
3. Why can't Wetherspoons take over the site of the Surrey Yeoman - on the high street?

This will be a disaster and create more anti social behaviour in a location close to a park and right next to the Library! No one will take over the Yoeman which has been empty for such a long time with a pub this size moving in and closing decent independent businesses in the process. Just look at the Sun in Redhill on a Saturday to see how bad this will be.
I can't wait to take my 4 kids to the Library on a Saturday and then walk through the courtyard to the park dodging the broken glasses and sick from the night before!

We neither want, nor need, a Wetherspoons in St Martins Walk, Dorking. Five well used units are going to lose their location and to be replaced with an undesirable food and drink unit with low standards and non edible food. If you must put a Wetherspoons in Dorking, put it on the outskirts, way way out of town.

I would prefer to see the defunct Surrey Yeoman refurbished by Wetherspoons if they are to come to town.

Wrong location for a large, chain pub. It is not needed at all.

How to quickly ruin a perfectly lovely town. Say no to a potential beehive for trouble and noise.
Local businesses will suffer greatly because of this.

It’s not that I’m against Wetherspoons, it’s just Dorking is a very small town and this will see other pubs close. They are already struggling. It’ll be sad to see this town lose its character.

This is a totally inappropriate area in which to put this enormous pub. Why not use other empty units in Dorking

Hi there, I am wholeheartedly against a pub of any description in that location. Firstly there are enough pubs in Dorking already. Secondly I don't want to have to walk my children right past a pub every time I go shopping in Dorking (pub will be at top of car park stairs). Thirdly the park has just been completely renovated and I can only imagine where all the drunk patrons will end up at closing time. And lastly the charity shop there does amazing work with disadvantaged locals and provides an invaluable service to many.

It will be awful for dorking if a werherspoons goes into st Martin's walk. A no go zone for families and children.

Not really needed in Dorking - diversity of retail units is needed not one that doesn't attract focused retail customers to the town.

Mr Q’s in dorking was shut down for drug and violence and was situated very near to the proposed site for Wetherspoons I see no reason why the same thing won’t happen again. We just don’t need it in dorking!

What Dorking town needs is a Westherdpoons. The town is dying and needs the life injected back in to it. I suspect the people signing this petition never set foot in the town and are simply afraid for their outskirts property prices.

Absolutely agree with this petition, Dorking is not such a place for this chain of pubs. More local small business and less big pub chains. There is an empty unit located at the high street.
