Following the many reports of how good useful retail businesses are constantly being turned away from Dorking by the council this is again extremely concerning. Wetherspoons are a low rent establishment attracting budget customers, not only would their presence dramatically damage the image of Dorking as a town and st martins walk as a boutique shopping experience but invariably noise and, violence would increase. Cote is an excellent addition but they won’t want to sit near Wetherspoons and you would certainly deter quality businesses coming to that part of town. It seems council decisions are looking to ruin Dorking rather than invigorate it, which is mystifying surely we all want our town to prosper and flourish? With 20 + shops long term empty it’s clear Dorking is not being properly managed. Residents who are increasingly families who need shops like next and Jojo Maman Bebe are getting more and more outraged, Things really need to change to save the image and integrity of the town and provide what residents actually need. . Not what suits out of touch councillors who are letting our town die and putting the Jewell in dorkings crown at risk, the antiques quarter. .

This would be a totally unsuitable unit in St Martins Walk. It is a family centred place with the library, Beatitudes, Burgundy & Black, M & S. My two year old son and I are grateful for the amazing support shown by Beautitudes to its customers, it’s a very special place. Parents with babies and young children feel welcome, safe and secure in St Martins Walk but this would be threatened by the opening of a Wetherspoons. Please do not permit it to change our landscape.

Please do not ruin St Martins Walk with a Weatherspoons. It would totally change the look and feel of the area and not for the better. Beatitudes is a wonderful support to our community, more than just a shop. Burgundy and Black is our only true child friendly cafe. It is a terrible idea.

Introducing an Wetherspoon into St Martin's would both spoil the feel of the area as well as force out two great local amenities - Beatitudes and Burgundy & Black.

Please please please don’t ruin our amazing local businesses and community. There are more than enough empty locations in Dorking for a Weatherspoons, but the reality is that we simply do not need another pub. We do need these local businesses. Additionally a pub, with cheaper alcohol in this location and off the beaten track, would undoubtedly attract trouble and public disorder issues. When Cote opened it had very strict licensing restrictions to protect the residents. I fail to see how the residents are being protected with this idea.

Please don't give approval for the St Martin's Wetherspoon application. It would be a travesty to lose Burgundy & Blacks and Beattitude!. Makes me feel sad to think that this is even being considered.

What an absolutely terrible idea! We have enough pubs in dorking, why would we want a whetherspoons degrading our lovely town. It doesn’t support the family ethos of dorking and is a terrible location, right by the park and new family facilities at meadow bank. Why loose lovely retail units like burgundy and black, millets and the pottery shop to whetherspoons. You reject Wagamama’s and Neals Yard which are fantastic and highly regarded retail chains and exactly what dorking needs, it doesn’t need a trashy pub attracting trouble.

I think Wetherspoons will be an awful addition to st Martin's walk. Throwing perfectly good businesses out of their commecial units, just so wetherspoons can move in.

Whilst I have no objections to Wetherspoons per se I DO very strongly object to putting it in St Martin's Walk and getting rid of the existing businesses. That's a terrible thing to do and not what the town is about. There are other locations such as the existing Malthouse or The Yeoman that are already empty or not used to the best effect.

There are other places that could support companies like Wetherspoons such as where the Surrey Yeoman was. The loss off the shops there and also the offices would be great. Beattitudes provides good pricing on baby and children items but also great support for families taking time to chat and help if can. Burgundy & Black also provide a comfortable place to meet with children and in summer it is lovely to sit outside and admire the view. The other shops also provide useful services for Dorking like Millets supporting everyone to get outdoors. Replacing all this with one major chain which I wouldn't feel comfortable taking my children in sounds a waste of space and not adding anything to the community. Stick them in the Yeoman space which used to be a fun pub (when we didn't have children).
