I absolutely object to this development for so many reasons. a) there are businesses of value to the community in those premises, the removal of which would have a considerable impact on the people who live in dorking; b) Dorking needs many things, but not another public house; c) the whole of st Martin's walk could be redeveloped to sustain what it currently offers and add a lot more, and if done well with good retail units would be a huge attraction to bring people into the town centre and stop it from becoming a ghost town; d) the council needs to consider what supports and draws people towards a community in order to make it attractive and draw investment. huge budget pubs and the associated implications are not the answer.

If Dorking attracts many because it is in an Area of Outstanding Beauty, I fear that all that goes with a Wetherspoons' presence, as reported from other towns, is likely adversely to affect Dorking's character, and reduce the quality of life for those of us who live within a few hundred yards of the proposed site.

We really don't need another pub, I've seen the weatherspoons in Redhill always drunks and fights. Dorking lacks atmosphere but some decent shops like Reigate would be much better.

There are more than enough pubs in Dorking already, adding another that will undercut all other hospitality is crazy. It’s not just the pubs that will be harmed but the coffee shops and cafes also.
Turning out 4 or 5 other businesses to do so is unforgivable and short sighted, so much for the market down of small independent shops.
Who would want to bring their business to Dorking in future if there’s a chance they might be turfed our to make way for a big chain because someone’s getting a sweet deal?

Firstly do NOT want Wetherspoons coming to Dorking on social and business levels. Secondly, taking out 4-5 independent businesses that are part of the heart of the town is looking like backhanded greed over the well being of the town and exiting shops and already struggling public houses. Concentrate on maintaining the existing.
