I do not want Wetherspoons brought to Dorking as it will attract the wrong type of people to the area!

The suggested location for this establishment not only reduces the variety of retailers therefore dilutes the current retail offer and damages the strong independent community, contrary to the BID plan. It also raises safety issues, particularly for children, sitting between the library and the entrance MeadowBank park.

Pubs in Dorking are finding it hard enough to survive at present and several have already had to call time for good. Why on earth do we need to open another? And at the expense of five units offering varied and useful facilities for all ages, it's ludicrous! Must Dorking lose more of the relatively little diversity it has in shops right now for the sake of a cheap n cheerful pub? Burgundy and Blacks in particular is such a popular coffee shop especially with mums and toddler's because of its ease of access and relaxing facilities. And this is not to mention the fact that a large pub will create much more noise (especially late night) for local residents, particularly in the flats above the shops.
Having it there may also be unnerving to some people, putting them off shopping in St Martins Walk. It could even see an increase in crime in and around the precinct because of the clientele it may attract. This is a overall a really bad idea!

This is a very bad idea for Dorking.
Dorking has many individual and diverse pubs. If a weatherspoons was to open in Dorking these would most likely struggle to compete.
We would end up with a town like Leatherhead where there is no pubs in high street.

Totally agree with the comments around Dt Martins walk being a family location. The library is used by many families and I fear the affect of a Wetherspoons next door will drive families away from a brilliant local council facility
