In a town with already a very large number of pubs compared to some, a large Weatherspoons is not needed and unwelcome. If that’s not bad enough, pushing out existing great independent businesses that are thriving is awful and detrimental for our already fragile high street. Plans were rejected for a new larger supermarket due to this and the same should stand for this hideous pub.

There are enough pubs in Dorking and restaurants and cafes selling food all of which compete to do business and survive in a finite market. This is not the sort of establishment that Dorking needs. There are already at least 9 pubs in Dorking that serve the population well already.

I’m still trying to get my head around how this is even an idea... St Martins walk is the quietest part of Dorking surrounded by residents. If a pub was to open in this location it would undoubtedly cause magnified noise pollution, especially in the summer months when a high proportion of the clientele will be standing outside. Also, at least 2 of the nearby existing pubs will close down within a year of a major pub chain opening, as a result of the reduced prices that can offered. Let’s not ignore the fact what sort of clientele cheap drinking will attract. I live in Church Street and on a Friday and Saturday night there is already a steady flow of noisy people walking home from the high street pubs at closing time. The new chain pub is said to be able to seat 230 people. How many will the place hold with standing? 100 to 150 more?
Common sense will prevail, I believe, but please don’t do a disservice to the pubs dorking already has, some of which were here before us and will here after we’re gone, but not with the presence of a super chain pub.
Imagine a Dorking town centre in the future with just a Wetherspoons to offer...

Putting a weatherspoons pub in st martins walk Dorking would destroy a central hub of a family community. Dorking is not the right town for this pub. We need to support local businesses not big chains! Not to mention the trouble this pub and the clientele it would attract would bring to our beautiful town.

A shopping centre is not the place for yet another pub in Dorking. The proximity to the new dreadful football club bar in Meadowbank is a total recipe for disaster with undoubtedly drunk people wandering backwards & forwards between the two establishments with guaranteed minuscule police presence . This proposal will kill St.Martins Walk & the businesses that have worked hard to be there.

Like many people, I worry that the landfall of this HUMONGOUS BEHEMOTH of a branch of the famous 'family friendly' pub chain will NOT ONLY be an upheaval and then some to these current five traders to move on after many years serving the town quite fittingly in this invitingly genteel and peaceful alcove of Dorking called St Martin's Walk, but might well ADDITIONALLY fuel crime and noise pollution as well as upset the balance and ambiance generally of St Martins Walk, surrounds and maybe Dorking as a whole - quite a misfit, from what I can see.

We need to keep the small individual shops which are so needed in Dorking. What happens if the pub fails -it will just be turned into an office block as it will be too big for retailers.

Beatitudes is not just another charity shop. The old house at home, the Falkland arms , the queens head and others have invested heavily to attract and keep customers. Weatherspoons wil pull customers away from them. This is not just another little pub it is massive, in a partially residential area. cCheap beer and food is appealing but not at the expense of the livlivlihood of so many businesses.
Dorking council needs to look at it business rates as soon Dorking will only contain chain stores as these are the only ones who can afford to be here, and our diversity wil be gone.

There are plenty of pubs and restaurants in Dorking, within walking distance from each other with a variety of prices. Taking away the 5 businesses in St Martin's Walk for 1 place which provides drink and food is greedy and nonsensical. Dorking is a family friendly town, where parents, friends, grandparents and children enjoy going to cafes (Burgundy & Black), make special hand painted gifts (Callis Corner), give/buy clothes from the charity shop (Beautitudes) etc.. Selling this as an investment in the town is clever for those gullible enough. The current establishments far enrich our lives. Besides that adding a wetherspoons is also taking away the choice for the locals who will have to put up the noise it will create all hours of the day and night.

In my experience of Wetherspoons the attraction appears to be it’s low prices and large turnover of alcohol. Unfortunately this attracts a hard drinking clientele and the subsequent problems associated with this. It’s proposed location is totally unsuitable for an area frequented by families and their young children.

I thinks it’s a terrible idea having a Wetherspoons in st Martins walk or any other place in Dorking we need shops to keep Dorking alive not another eatery/pub place, how many shops will be removed to make space no no no, Dorking used to have thriving businesses and shops now nothing stays, we have enough food places thank you, about time we had somebody in charge who can see what Dorking really needs, who ever is in charge of the design of Dorking need to go. Houses/flats/pubs/ cafes/building society’s/banks and little else, terrible place

Oxted suffers shouting and loutish behaviour due to its Wetherspoons. Forget what Wetherspoons and the police say. Stand in Oxted near the station at midnight to see drunken oafs reeling about.shouting at the top of their voices. I recently intervened when 3 thugs on their way to the pub splattered old people with lager. This was reported to the police and recorded. This is a lovely old market town I have lived in for most of my life. How can this possibly benefit the town except act as a honeypot for those seeking cheap beer with the resultant fallout.
