It would hugely lower the tone and atmosphere of that area of Dorking. The council must be mad to allow them to come to Dorking, let alone quintquintessential St Martin's walk. Please reconsider.

Dorking is a unique and beautiful market town with many family run shops and quaint pubs full of character. Much as I don't mind Wetherspoons I do not agree it should be in St Martin's walk. The whole area would go downhill and lose its charm. Hideous idea to put one there!

It is just not the right location for a Wetherspoons, especially as it means that small businesses that really benefit the local community have to close to allow it to open. Why can’t Wetherspoons use empty The Yeoman pub site or the old Woolworths site??

This is a completely counterintuitive way to try and invigorate a shopping centre. It would kick out the independents that the town is known for and we certainly already have enough pubs / restaurants. Plus it is not a good fit for the town image. It is an absolute disgrace from every angle that it's even being considered. Shame on you.

The last think Dorking needs is another restaurant/pub. The Bull is seeking new owners, the Surrey Yeoman is closed, needing new owners and almost every other shop has turned into a cafe. We need more retail outlets to attract people to our town, or there will be no-one to eat in them & we certainly do not need a giant place like Wetherspoon’s.

Out of place in this position however the empty Surrey Yeoman would fit JDW style of using and revitalising historic premises. The Assembly Rooms in Epsom are a good example. Also Millets is the only walking gear shop now outside of Guildford and Kingston.

Wetherspoons is out of character for our town. It will alienate that part of St Martins Walk to many who will be too frightened to walk past it at night and create a no go area.
The current shops are in keeping with the area.
We have existing empty units- including the old Surrey Yeomans- in the high street that could be turned back into pubs.

Any pub/restaurant in this area will create: passive smoking in the covered area, unsociable behaviour, lack of safety for some, health and safety issues, bring down the great reputation of the town and particularly St Martins walk, crime, insecurity, lower the value of homes in the immediate and surrounding areas, put other businesses off of staying in the area and possibly the town, and put existing businesses that are well used and established in that area. Putting a pub/restaurant in this area will be like putting a square peg in a round hole. St Martins walk is unique, let's keep it that way please. Dorking needs a greater balance of the types of establishments and shops. There are many missing needs in the town which causes residents to shop in other towns that meet those needs. One of them is not pubs or restaurants! I believe greed is at the root of this type of thing, disagree with the poor example of bullying tactics to the younger generations in our community and would ask that you please don't stoop to this level of making such utterly ridiculous decisions. We want our town to improve, not go downhill.

Absolutely ridiculous idea when a large restaurant, Cote, is already in St Martins walk and to add yet another eating establishment in dorking when we already have so many. Having a pub in that area is just as, if not even more ridiculous. Children going to the library from the car park will have to walk through a crowd of people smoking, with alcohol in most of them and possibly drugs too, to get to the library. Children will also be going past in the other direction to get to the place where they decorate pottery etc. Part of that area is enclosed and covered which makes for an intimidating journey through there for women and children. There will be cigarette litter, along with spilt beer on the pavements at times and the atmosphere will change dramatically for the worse. Walking through there at night will become unsafe due to intoxicated people displaying unpredictable behaviours. Shops nearby will be more at risk of damage to their property. Has anyone seriously thought this through? And just to top it off they want to close down family orientated businesses that serve the community and without whom there will be a huge gap in the town and a shop that promotes healthy activity in the great outdoors for an establishment that sells unhealthy liquor, and some of their food too, to large quantities of people in the town. Talk about Riches to Rags story, and yes I did mean to put those words in that order. The covered area will stink of smoke and that will seep into the library, where children are, the wedding dress shop and other businesses under there. It will create an area of passive smoking for those walking through there too. It won't increase footfall, it will decrease it! The intelligence of anyone agreeing to do this to our town is astounding!!!
