The Hamlet is another example of developers putting their own profit above the interests, wants, and needs of the residents that will have to live with the mess that they leave behind. The town officials should listen to the uproar over this in the community and come up with a plan that is more appropriate for the space. They should also consider how building a new retail area is going to impact other areas like Main Street that already appear to be hurting, but could be devasted by building a new huge retail area. The last thing we need is two failing areas with empty stores and For Rent signs in the window.

This development seems like a terrible idea

This project is too much for Westport

The proposed development is far out of scale for the surrounding area. It looks like something for downtown Stamford, not Saugatuck.

The proposed design is monstrosity that is out of place with the character of this town. Who will benefit beside the developers and their investors? Certainly not the regular citizens who prize livability over crass commercializion of our Saugatuck waterfront.

Westport in choking with so much building. Our roads are clogged, the air is polluted, the stores are overcrowded, and the infrastructure cannot support additional development. I was told by a close family member (who now lives in New Jersey) that Westport now looks like New Jersey!

I'm worried that this project will be too disruptive.

Buildings are too tall. It changes the character of the area.

The scale of this development is too large. The height and density of the buildings is out of line with the rest of the town and the rest of Saugatuck, and there is no doubt that traffic will be an even greater problem than it already is.

67 yrs in Westport. Greed is trumping smart, realistic, sensible, planning. The "Hamlet" is not for the sake of Westport, it is for the greedy self centered, self proclaimed "experts".

Let’s be reasonable about development in Westport to enhance, not hinder the experience of living there.

Westport is already too overdeveloped. Stop ruining this beautiful community.

I grew up in Saugatuck, and change and progress are inevitable, but that does not justify trampling the charm and human scale of this historic village with mammoth structures better suited to a congested cityscape.

I support reasonable updates to Saugatuck that maintain the scale, coastal style and history of our town. The Whelk, the kayak store and Iceland store and the others like it cut that criteria. The new plan for the Hamlet is beautiful for Stamford or Hartford. Way out of scale and design for Westport.

The area definitely needs a facelift but more suitable to Westports unique beauty, charm & style.

This proposed monstrosity will destroy Saugatuck, and take a good part of the surrounding area with it. No way.
