Too big. Destroys the quaint neighborhood of Saugatuck with its mom and pop businesses. Current application doesn't even include the public green space on the riverfront. Will that be built? If Westport is forward thinking, there would be two- to three-story affordable housing built on the upland lots, and a park along the riverfront, not three hotels and a private event space, and multiple looming five-story buildings.

Way over scale. Take a page from the Gault playbook please which makes much more sense. Less density is better for traffic, pedestrians, businesses and is more beneficial for Saugatuck. Oh and scrap the hotel. No need for that.

This design and size do not in any way reflect the character of Westport. HAMLET means small! This looks like a contractor's dream and a town's nightmare. It would be a travesty for Westport, another wound to Main Street businesses, and a traffic nightmare, especially for commuters. Please take a deep breath and go back to the drawing board. Nothing wrong with upgrading the area, just don't make it look like Las Vegas.

I left Fairfield and Westport because of complexes like that and the burden they are putting on our infrastructure.

I do not want this development plan to go through as it will make that area of Westport extremely congested.

Three plus hotel buildings planned (as US tourism plummets) and developers claim no room at the Inn for their legal obligation of affordable housing. They say it will be all off site while the town still struggles to find enough room for affordable housing. Meanwhile the affordable housing within this proposal will outprice the already low income residents! Why should we allow one of the last affordable areas in town to be consumed by big private interest? Why should we allow privatization of state and town responsibilities such as remediation, traffic safety and congestion? This does not represent a democracy to privatize these major concerns! Why should we allow them to remediate and then immediately fill that space with a flooding, PERMEABLE parking garage directly adjacent to the Saugatuck River? There is no forward thinking in remediating toxic metals and contaminants and then build a parking garage to pollute the Saugatuck River. Why should we create a new mess for our grandchildren to have to clean up? The proposed parking garage doesn’t even cover how much parking they need, so they are already trying to eat into the RR parking!

Per the ARB: too big, too tall, too dense and once again, way too urban.

Westport is a charming beautiful town. Bringing in such developments will not only take the charm away but bring in a lot of traffic problems and strain local town resources. I strongly oppose this development.

I strongly oppose the current Saugatuck Hamlet development plan. It threatens to overwhelm our town’s unique character, increase traffic congestion, strain local resources, and permanently alter the charm and environment that make Saugatuck special. We should prioritize thoughtful, community-centered growth that respects the area’s history, natural beauty, and small-town feel — not high-density developments

Anything that large really changes the character of the town. And I can’t imagine the additional traffic.
