This is totally out of character with the style and density of a small new England town.

The Hamlet project, as it is being consider at this time, is NOT the Hamlet project that was originally approved my the town. It got bigger and bigger, and bigger. Questions to the principals about employee parking were dismissed as trivial. There is NOTHING attractive or commercially appealing about this project. It's the traffic,...Deny this project.

For me the Hamlet conversation begins and end with traffic. The infrastructure of Saugatuck is in no way capable of handing the onslaught of traffic it will cause.

This project will only help the developers and a few mercahnts, it willl be a disaster for all other stakeholders--the nearby community, most Saugatuck merchants who will be pushed out, everyone who wants or needs to drive that direction, and Westport as a whole. It will NOT make us a destination spot!

Everyone seems to think this project will benefit the investors and developers. I disagree. This project is so grossly out of proportion with the area, I don't think it will succeed on any level. It will be an area to avoid with greatly worsened traffic. Not to mention the massive disruption during a 3 year construction period. Oh and let’s add a new Cribari bridge that accommodates tractor-trailer traffic… All this will adversely affect Saugatuck area home values. Pretty horrific all around. We need and we welcome sensible, progressive development.

The current Hamlet Proposal would greatly negatively impact access by me and clients to my office at 20 Saugatuck Ave. Please deny proposal.

The scale, density and resulting traffic are objectionable. The developers benefit, not Westport residents.

It is too big and does not have the small town character that will be appropriate for this tight area. I believe it would make traffic bad during commuting hours--the lifeblood of Westport.

The individuals signing this petition are the same people who will dine at these restaurants. Do I smell some hypocrisy . . .It's worth noting that a significant number of businesses in Westport struggle to survive—take Little Beet, for example. I see no issue with efforts that increase home values, boost commerce, and attract tourism. As for concerns about traffic—if it's that bothersome, consider walking or go to Southport / Green Farms Station. Additionally, the development plans include 14 affordable housing units—an important step toward inclusivity and community growth. Build, baby, build.

Does anyone really think this is a good idea??? I mean, sure it will make huge profits for the developers….but this seems insane. At least to anyone who has driven around Saugatuck at rush hour.
Don't turn Westport into Stamford!
