I have called various House and Senate representatives and committees to express my views against various legislation that ties schooling of ANY kind to the awful mandated assessments that have ruined our public schools (resulting in my removing my youngest child from public school to homeschool). ALL of the currently available criterion-referenced (CRT) and norm-referenced (NRT) assessments available and approved by "the agency" are aligned to standards which are SUPPOSED TO BE ILLEGAL IN TEXAS.
Real measures to protect our schools lie in the required mandates, and I do not see that those measures are being taken.
Don't be fooled that just because something says it's "nationally" normed or criteria referenced and "accepted" by the agency or the common core aligned College Board that it's on the up and up. We are being deceived. Many of YOU, our legislators, are being deceived.
THSC does NOT speak for this homeschool parent. I am opposed to this bill because I am opposed to the assessments that are the key to controlling any curriculum that any parent who chooses to participate in the program will be required to take.

Please vote NO on this discriminatory legislation. The testing parameters are unfair and unnecessary. Let Texas Homeschoolers do what we have done best for twenty years- educate our children as their needs require, and be creative in our access to sports (without government oversight).

I, as a homeschooler, do not want ties to the government. I relish my freedom! This bill discriminates against homeschoolers. The UIL standards should be the same for any child who participates. This bill would create a double standard where homeschool children must be tested while public school children are not! THSC is not listening to Texas homeschoolers when we say we do not want this discrimination! They do NOT speak for me! I ask our Texas representatives to hear my voice!

We are homeschoolers. We do not want any part of public education. We do not need the government's help. We do not want the government's regulation. Surely, there are more important things for our legislators to focus on? How about getting rid of daylight savings time? That would actually help.

My children are homeschooled and I am firmly opposed to the proposed legislation. I do not support any legislation that views homeschool as separate from private school under the law, requires standardized testing for homschooled students, or takes the word of a public school teacher over that of a homeschool teacher about student grades and performance. Homeschooled children already have access to a variety of activities and this legislation will not give any positive benefits to my community.
