This bill is flawed from the beginning: the courts have recognized us as unaccredited private schools. We don't want to establish something called "homeschool" which can then lead to restrictions and requirements we do not have as private schools. And we don't need this, anyway. We have our own sports leagues.

My family does not support this bill. We do not need public school to be able to play sports. My son plays sports in a homeschool league, and we are completely happy with that!

There is no reason for this bill. There are many options for homeschool families to participate in sports outside the public school. These programs offer the same, and sometimes better, access to quality coaches and college recruiters. This bill infringes on the freedoms homeschool families are afforded by Texas law and should be rejected without hesitation.

I have never been enthused about UIL participation for home schoolers, but this bill is worse than predecessors: Home schoolers would be required to pass tests that public school peers are not.

Homeschoolers will be negatively impacted in many other programs throughout Texas if UIL rules change. We will not have a choice. We do not want to be subjected to unequal regulations that public school kids do not have to meet.

The requirements being asked of homeschool students to participate in UIL is pure ludicrous! As a former public school athlete, & parent of a former public school athlete....the only requirements are that the student have passing six/nine week grades. It is NOT mandatory to pass special tests to participate in band, ball, track, etc. Vote NO against this bill!!
