Rent control is nearly always and uneconomic really bad idea. If it is going to be enacted it needs to be done correctly which the Montclair Town Council has not done.

I do not want rent control in Montclair and as a senior citizen and a recent retiree this would have devastating impact on my quality of life with added costs and propert devalued. This is unfair inwarranty and certainly conducted without the knowledge and involvment of the homeowners.

I own a multi family building in town. I’ve never raised rents more than the proposed 4.5% but I don’t believe the township has the right to limit my ability to do so if costs warrant. Most of my tenants have incomes larger than mine. I do not believe I need to subsidize them.

It's unfortunate to see such juvenile, uninformed comments crop up on this petition. The facts are Rent Control results in the opposite of its intended effects - it actually leads to less housing supply and encourages gentrification. If you don't believe this, please do your own google search - the research is undeniable. Rent Control is not the proper solution here. If we want to solve a problem, let's have a civilized debate that includes all residents.

If this moves forward, I will be adjusting real estate investments to a more friendly location. This proposal will result in a decline in Montclair's standing economically and socially.
