Very simple: Offshore drilling is not worth the risk of oil damage to our coastline. No number of jobs, most of which would go to experienced rig workers from out of the area and state, is worth the risk.

We have a hard enough time keeping our waters clean. Now, if we want to invest in some off-shore wind or wave generated energy, I'll support that in a heartbeat.

There is no safe way to drill oil, there is always a risk of a disaster.

That we are dealing with this potential disaster and not focusing on sustainable alternative energy sources makes no economic sense..unless your are a power company.

Offshore drilling is short sighted and fool hardy. Period.

I am a lifelong resident of Virginia Beach and 48 years active surfer. Our oceanic resources are the most important dynamic in the rich ecosystem of Coastal Virginia. Anything that has potential to compromise or worse still, destroy that ecosytem should not even be considered, let alone implemented. NO TO OFFSHORE DRILLING!

Keep the East Coast alive and healthy. Having grown up in VA Beach, I would hate to see the coastline devastated by one spill. You will never recover from it. All you politicians know the right thing to do. Its not letting the oil companies ruin your beaches and your future. Will Sessoms, I hope you are fighting this mess. Best of luck on the success of keeping our East Coast pristine.

I feel and have felt that drilling off the Virginia coast is detrimental to our community and to the environment. Our area prides itself on our beaches and local seafood. Opening the area to drilling would greatly impact what Virginia Beach holds dear in addition to the economic impact that our city would feel.

Oil is dirty business—literally and metaphorically. How much more of our ecosystem do we need to potentially destroy and damage just to get the point across?

My family owns a condo on the west coast of Florida. Five years after the BP disaster, the gulf and beaches are still not back to normal. We can't afford that risk in Virginia Beach.
