Wildlife belongs to all of us, not just the small minority of hunters. It’s about time the rest of us have a say in wildlife ‘management.’

Children need to be shown an example of compassion.

Extracting innumerable wild animals from the environment for no acceptable reason whatsoever. If this isn’t cruel and thoughtless and wasteful nothing is. The problem begins with the PA Game Commission for ever having allowed this. Time for major changes.

As a wildlife biologist in a state that banned these unscientific and indefensible contests, I wholeheartedly support bans on these contests everywhere. Nonlethal prevention is the only way to address potential human-wildlife conflict. Furbearer species self-regulate based on their food sources, predators, competitors and other ecological factors.

This is 21st century. Stop ancient tradition

Stop this! It’s nuts! Opossums?? I can’t believe it, this innocent little critter and America’s only marsupial. They are a gardener’s best friend, love eating ticks whose elimination saves you from nasty diseases. Leave the other animals on your list alone as well. I don’t understand those killing sprees , it’s uncivilized.

There is no excuse to wantonly kill animals on a grand scale, cause irreparable harm to nature and subject incomprehensible cruelty to living beings in order to raise money for a social event. Despicable!

Wildlife killing contests are a sadistic abuse of wildlife that serve no constructive purpose. The Fire Company should have nothing to do with this obscenity. There are far better and more ethical ways to raise money.

This is murder for innocent wildlife and it must be stopped. Many states have already banned killing contests. There are better ways to make money. This is inhumane. The fire department should be ashamed of themselves. It's time to listen to what the public wants instead of hunters and trappers who inflict pain on the innocent.

These animals are a vital part of the ecosystem and it's both foolish and cruel to hunt them for sport. For example, possums eat ticks, which cause health issues in humans. Without possums, the onslaught of ticks would be that much worse. All these species being targeted in this dubious fundraiser have an important role in the wilds of PA.

This is a barbaric way for an organization focused on saving lives to raise money.
