The Mission of Atwater High School is to provide students with a diverse educational experience that develops academic, technical, and social skill sets in preparation for college, careers, and life.

While many schools are adding programs and increasing the rigor in their programs TO SET THEIR STUDENTS UP FOR SUCCESS, we have reason to believe that our school is diminishing these programs and essentially setting our students up for FAILURE!!!!!

  1. SAY NO TO ELIMINATING OUR AP COURSES AND LIMITING OUR COURSE OPTIONS
If a student to teacher ratio is smaller than “usual”, the class should not be removed. Not only has research shown, but it is common sense that students in smaller classes perform better.
  2. SAY NO TO INFERIOR EDUCATION
Physics, AP Chemistry, AP US History, and the other AP classes are about to be eliminated!!!!!!! These courses make students competitive for colleges and other life opportunities. Removing these courses can ruin a student’s chance to be competitive as an applicant. Atwater High School has very few AP courses, so why take away what little we have? At this point every rigorous class is valuable.
  3. SAY YES TO EXPANDING THE STEM AREAS THAT WILL PAVE THE WAY TO SUCCESS
While all other schools are expanding their STEM Program in order to better prepare their students for college, a career, and life our school is removing courses. We should expand our STEM Program and improve on our programs instead of tearing them apart.

AP courses allowed me to graduate from UCSB a year early, and start my teaching credential ahead of time. Removing them is ridiculous. Education is important and knowledge is power!

AP classes were the stepping stone for me to know I could succeed in college, and coming from a low income community AP classes helped motivate me to learn more of what is out in the world to achieve!!

As an alumni of AHS I can say that the AP courses have helped me get ahead in college. If u had not taken any AP courses I was be at the lowest entry-level classes for college which puts you behind on graduating on time and cost more money that most of us don't have. Just my statement doesn't mean it's right.

This was forwarded to me by a top student at AHS. I assume the problem is cost. Please be creative and find a way fulfill the needs of the aspiring student(s). There are flexible ways to run classes these days.

I plan on taking Physics next year as a junior and AP Music Theory my senior year, and if these classes were taken away, along with other rigorous classes, I feel that I am being set up for failure because I cannot push myself outside of my comfort zone and work to my highest potential.

The rural towns of the Central valley need more opportunities to raise their communities out of poverty. AP classes give that opportunity, and even an incentive to strive for higher education.

AP classes challenge students to try their best and work to their fullest potential. It also helps better prepare them for college coursework.
