Education and vocational training are important. However, convicted criminals need not get any more benefits than law abiding citizens. Why has society stopped letting there be consequences, either be good or bad, for the choices we make in life. If all citizens get $5,000 free money first then the inmates can get it too, but non-convicts should be rewarded for good behavior before inmates get another handout.

this is so very wrong for many, many reasons. rewarding criminals for breaking the law by giving them a "free" education when law abiding citizens struggle to get an education, that they have to pay for. WRONG, WRONG, WRONG

LET'S SEE IF THE SENATOR IS A MAN OF HIS WORD ON THIS ISSUE. UNLIKE HIS VOTE ON THE "SAFE ACT".

THIS IS A DREADFUL and UNFAIR IDEA. Higher Education is a privelege. This is very unfair to those who had to pay or are still paying for their education. Teach them a trade- period.

Cuomo is out of control. As a college grad with over $90,000 in loans after college, I find this nauseating. Help them get their GED. There's many people, including the prison guards that babysit these scumbags, that manage to stay out of trouble with a high school education.

I am NOT in favor of "Free college for prisoners". It seems there is no reward for being a law-biding citizen when all we do is support prisoners with everything the rest of us can't afford. Put that money into the up-coming kids whose families can't afford college. Why do we always reward the ones who don't deserve it. Once upon a time, prisoners had no rights. The law-biding people struggle to have health insurance, a college education or even a roof over their head. It's about time to reward these people and not the ones who have no respect for the law!!!

What do I have to do, become a criminal now to get the state to pay for my BA Degree? This is only going to incourage some people to become criminals to get their college education paid for by the state. STUPID MOVE GOVERNOR!!!

My children who have worked since they were 16 and got loans and are paying back loans should get free tuition not someone who was convicted of a crime, we pay enough for people getting free things ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

hard working law abiding citizens should be the first to recieve any college tuition assistance payed for by NYS taxpayers! My husband and I both work full time and our daughter workded 3 jobs in High School and 5 jobs last year during her Freshmen year of college. If young people are out there earning their way in life and working hard to earn a college degree...they don't have time to get into trouble with the law! Cuomo needs to remember he was elected to represent the people...so far he is carrying out his own self serving agenda!

I am currently a full time student in college and New York State didn't give me one cent! This is beyond ridiculous that prisoner will get $5,000 a year to get a college education and I, who hasn't done anything illegal get nothing!

why would/should criminals get a free education and young, bright, and promising kids have to go broke to get further education.
