First we need to educate/make an education affordable for the law abiding, tax paying middle class of NYS.

I had two children who attended college with student loans and money from us, their parents. They paid back all loans. I believe that people shoiuld earn what they received - not be given handouts like free college for prisoners.l

No, No, No to free college tuition for prisoners at the expense of the State taxpayers. Do ordinary citizens get free college tuition? No they have to pinch pennies to send their family students to college. I am shocked at Gov. Cuomo for suggesting this ridiculus idea. We must stop this nonsense Thank you for trying to stop this idea.

I understand the desire to lift people out of a situation that also costs taxpayers money (imprisonment) -- but its simply illogical to me that prisoners would be rewarded before people who haven't made the same mistakes in life.

I am struggling to make ends meet and pay back my $40,000 in student loans. I got my Masters Degree in education and am a teacher without a classroom because there are too many colleges with teacher certification programs in this area. I worked hard to get my degree-it was my PASSION to get the degree that will help me obtain my dreams. It wasn't something to "do" to pass time or get out of my cell for awhile. I am a hard working, law abiding citizen and it is unfair that a criminal would be able to get a college education on my tax dollars.

we have 3 kids that have been through College the hard way we and they are burdened with the debt for years. They should look at fixing the mind and soul first of the inmates, drug, alcohol rehab and mental health. then general life skills to function on the outside then consider vocations. Cuomo should look at helping those who help themselves first!

Tired of middle class having to pay for everything. Cost me $50,000 to go to college. I should have landed in jail and it would only cost 5,000. Unreal

My husband and I put ourselves through college, with some help from the U.S. Navy of which I was enlisted in. We have worked hard our entire lives and raised our two children with good standards and morals. We put our daughter through college and are in the process of putting our son through college. I am absolutely insulted not only by this proposition, but the fact that it's already happening in several prisons throughout the state. If you want to give them some type of training, teach them a vocation so that when they get out of prison they can get a job. Which, by the way, reminds me of something else I would love to have looked into. Is it true that ex-cons can get permanent disability due to post dramatic stress syndrome from their time spent in prison? I worked with a woman who's insignificant other was granted permanent disability due to his time spent in prison. This is, well, I can't type what it is but suffice to say it's preposterous.
