As a recent college graduate, I am over $74000 in debt with a 7.6% interest rate. Many of my other friends who are recent grads are in the same boat and struggling to find ANY job, not even exclusive to their field. There is nothing you could say that could convince me that a FREE college education to someone who BROKE THE LAW is reasonable. They are already given the opportunity to get a GED. The rest should be up to them. In the City of Buffalo, high school students are already the opportunity of a free college education, yet 25% do not graduate. What makes you think that a convict will want to work hard and then make an honest living when they are done with prison? All at the taxpayers expense, no less. I am all for inmates receiving a college education but one that they must pay back. I do think that student loans should be available to them while in prison, knowing that they mist repay them once they are released or have found a job. If this law goes into effect, it will only give people the idea that "if I rob someone or murder someone, I can get a free college education too!" absolutely, the recidivism rate needs to go down, but there are plenty of other options to help this. I'd much rather see my tax money go to treating and evaluating the mental health of inmates that throwing money away thinking they will better themselves.

I'm currently a senior in highschool and the thought that an inmate might get a free education while I have to work for everything I want is sickening. You should earn your free education, not by killing someone or selling dope, but by being involved in sports, having good academics in highschool, and being a decent human being.

LET THEM WORK FOR IT AS WE HAVE HAD TO DO. THERE HAS TO BE A POINT WHEN WE STOP TAKING CARE OF THESE PEOPLE AND IF THEY TRULY WANT TO LIVE A DIFFERENT WAY PROVIDE A JOB AND SOME TUITITON ASSISTANCE, NOT A FREE RIDE...THEY HAVE DONE THE FREE RIDE PROBABLY ALL THEIR LIVES MOST LIKELY, AFTER THEY GET OUT.

The KILLERS that MURDERED my Uncle and stole him from his children - should not get a free college education- my uncles children had to work twice as hard with out a father to get theirs! And they are still paying huge student loans. MURDERS don't deserve chairty or any more of our tax dollars
