Higher education is out of reach for most people who aren't wealthy or aren't crippled by massive loan debt, yet we want to give it away to inmates who have broken the law? This is about as bad an idea as the SAFE Act. Lets penalize law abiding citizens who are taxed at the highest rates in the USA, but those who break the law get rewarded? I don't think so. Get it right and don't even both with this legislation New York.

I agree with Sen Grasantis comments, working people should get rewarded for their efforts, not convicts !

Where are his brains???? A free college education should be for someone who deserves it. who has worked hard for good grades and just cant afford higher education. You don't reward someone for doing bad, you reward them for doing good. If Cuomo wants to give out college classes to inmates let him pay for he makes enough money.

Help the middle class students afford the high cost of a college education. We are helping our kids pay back their college loans putting a strain on our budget. I would rather see the money go to help those students lower their student loan debt. It should not take 10 to 25 years to pay off this debt.

No one is paying for either my son's college education or mine. We are both in debt for a college education that should be available to everyone. If we do not pay, then we lose our credit worthiness. But yet, if this goes through, I will be paying for an inmates college education. An inmate that is most likely in prison for a felony. As a felon, many places will not hire even with a college education. As a felon, you are not allowed to vote. As a felon, you get to have a free college education?

my law abiding child gets no college assistance, maybe she should go to jail so she wont have to pay her college loans

As soon as the state is willing to cancel my 3 children's student loans, I'll consider this legislation. This is the reward my family gets for doing things the RIGHT way?????

I stand with Mark Grisant, NO college for prisoners. they are there to be punished not rewared with us paying for their college, this is BS pure and simple. If you think for a minute someone will hire them despite the education with their record you are crazy thinking. The idea of prison is to teach a lesson that you are responsible for what you do, not to be rewarded with cable tv, high speed internet, gyms, ect, heck I would liek some of those things and I can't afford them because I'm paying for scum like rapists and I simply refuse to pay for college for them when i can't afford to go myself.
