why should we reward those who broke the law? I've worked and seen a lot of good people work real hard and it sickens me how those get screwed while the lazy and criminal get more and better benefits.that's the reason this state and country are going downhill and fast.

My children have been out of college for nearly 10 years and they are still paying their college loans. Who are these "elected" officials representing. Certainly not the law abiding citizens. Maybe those people don't have a place in New York State either.

If prisoners can get a college degree while in prison, they should have to take out student loans to pay the cost. Why should my sons go in debt for their college education but prisoners wouldn't have to? I agree that educating them will lower the chance of them returning to prison, but let them also pay the financial cost of getting an education .

No reason for taxpayers to pay for prison inmates why reward them for breaking the law ? My children and grandchildren have student loans they pay for. They are nys upstanding citizens......

I understand the whole rehabilitation philosophy. Here's the best idea. They want an education? Ok provide it. However 1 year after release they must start to pay it back. Still a bettter deal then they give college grads only 6 months after graduation to start making payments or face default. No more freebies for people who take lifes opportunities and piss them away anyhow. Great message were sending to todays youth. Hmm committ a crime and get a free education or work hard study hard and get accepted to college where after graduation you will have a loan to spend the next 15-20 years paying off. Well done Mr Cuomo. I don't care if they may qualify for financial aid anyhow. You're in jail for a reason you should not be treated better than those who.live law abiding lives

This is another example of the perverse incentives that government enacts. It is a slap in the face for those who strive to do the right thing.

The State was not there to help good, hard-working students so we should not let this guyCuomo) provide free college to criminals. They have it too good right now if we are spending $50,000 and getting no return.Let them earn their room & board first because they are nothing more than criminals.

I had to serve my country in the military to receive college education benefits. Its ashamed the governor wants to reward convicts for breaking the law. Where is the deterrence to commit crime?

Seriously, you have to be kidding ! My kids have worked hard to get into good colleges and are paying for their educations, and you expect us, the working and law abiding to pay for the incarcerated? No way!!!!

This really sucks! Put that money into the educational system so they don't go to the slammer in the first place. Once there, let 'em rot. There are already plenty of do-gooder, feel-right programs out there. Educate the parents before these little pisspots hit the bricks at age 3.

This is absurd! Free college for inmates? What about all of our non fealon children and loved ones who need thousands of dollars in student loans to go to school, which they will be paying on for a very long time. Cuomo needs to get his priorities in line!
