it is not right to give someone who breaks the law free money to get a collage deploma and make people who want to better themselves tens of thousands of debt.

My husband and I were talking about this earlier today - we seem to recall that 30 years ago or so - there were reports about how some inmates were taking advantage of the books in the prison library and studying law and actually getting law degrees. Andy needs to do his homework. - because the inmates are already educating themselves. well, those that WANT to be gainfully employed. - speaking of which, a college degree doesn't necessarily mean a JOB these days.

I say NO!! to free tuition to prison inmates and even the right to vote in any election. They did a crime and they should do the time. Not get a free colledge education. I'm retired military and I had to pay for colledge. and now congress wants to cut into my military retirement benefits. Why is it prison inmates and people on public assistance have more right's then the average hard working person does? Cuomo probably will raise the taxes to insure that the taxpayers pay the tab for the inmates free colledge tuition. NO MORE!!!!!

I believe it is responsible to give them an opportunity to learn a trade and basic job skills. But in no way shape or form should inmates be leaving jail with the same degree and education I have busted my butt for and will be paying until I am 50.

you are supposed punish the people in prison, not reward them! Half the people NOT in prison can't afford college and should be abke to but are busy busting their asses working and being stand up citizens

I completely disagree with it and it is going to be more money blowing out of our pockets for nothing. Prudent thinking here should be to do a litmus test first and see with one prison what happens to the recidivism rate; and to properly test that you would have to do an ethnographic qualitative research study which will take years. This is just another way to steal from the middle class and give to the undeserving. I will be the first to go to Albany to protest this act of a Visigoth we have in office.
