If the state has all this money to educate criminals at taxpayers expense, why don't the state absolve some of the debt ( student loans ) acquired by the normal non criminal half of society. They put themselves behind bars let them pay the price!!!!!! I don't think a free degree is it!!!!

Focus for inmates should be on trade school.

Right now so many young people enter the military because it is the only way they can afford a college education - and so many have died trying. It's a very bad idea in this financial climate to hand out to felons what the rest of their generation has had to fight and die for.

How about helping the law abiding students with their student loans. Enough of the free handouts!!! NYS taxes are ridiculously high enough. Stop the bleed from hard working middle class families struggling yo make ends meet

This is wrong. A high school degree is enough. They already get health care and other benefits that hard working honest people can not afford.

I agree...it is not fair for us tax paying citizens who are already paying for food, shelter, expensive cars and other luxuries for people who are abusing the system. Now you want to give free education for criminals...how is that fair. Where is our break. Maybe we all should quit our jobs...we'll get more money...and start being criminals to get into the system so we can have free education too. Come on wake up

Lets focus on getting the kids good educations in primary school so they dont end up in prison. The problem is the drop out rate in our city schools. The common core and regents requirements are pushing kids away from learning!! Plus it is more than insulting that the Governor proposes this as a benefit to minorities. Simply amazing.

I was blessed to attend college in the 80's with assistance from TAP . I worked hard and have given back to society and continue to do so . My niece is hard working college student who when she finishes her second bachelor's degree will be paying back loans for most of her life . Let the inmates find their own funding .

My children deserve consideration for help in paying tuition before we allow prisoners to receive free college tuition.
