This is insane, I helped my kids pay, and they still owe. Should have told them to hold up a liquor store instead.

I don't mind the State of NY giving convicts free education when my son can go to college for free.

This is absolutely ridiculous! My three children that have college educations are struggling to pay their loans. The TAP funds would be a great help, but that even isn't enough. Help our law abiding citizens, not the criminals in jail.

when children, such as mine go to college, and at the same time hold a job, that is cause responsible. At the end, and even with parental assistance, they leave school with debt that is beyond one's comprehension. Student loans are immediately called in, that's the one and only thing that our government acts on quickly and without reservation. No free-be's, just hard work and debt. We work hard for the things that matter in our lives..bad decisions have a consequence, not a payday!!!!

I feel this is atrocious. I went to college and paid my own way, have over $60,000 in debt. These prisoners made their choice when they committed a crime. This would only encourage the crime rate to go up & is a complete waste of my tax dollars when I cannot even afford an education myself

If your in jail, and want a college education, pay for it yourself like ALL other non criminals do.Make inmates work a chain gang, like Arizon Sheriff Joe runs his prisons.

Middle class can't get any help, but criminals get tuition for free. Absolutely ridiculous. Only in NY!

It makes no sense to pay for inmates to take college courses while taking money from childhood education via the Gap Elimination Assessment. Restore funding to schools, fund juvenile addiction treatment and restore funding to agencies that provide services for the developmentally disabled. Those should be bigger priorities than helping individuals who have already proven they are unable to make good decisions and/or be productive members of society.

Why don't you help non criminals get a degree to better the world and then maybe you wouldn't need to lock up any more people. Why give free college to those who know nothing but prison! Get serious. Help single mothers get free college. Help low income family who can't afford college get it. Seriously

As a Criminal Justice/Sociology major i do beleive rehabilitation of inmates is the way to go. But at this time, i cannot support this. There are so many college graduates who have not found jobs within their field of study and are in much debt because of it. Let's put this money towards creating jobs for those who have already graduated and have worked so hard to obtain their degrees, before they leave NYS to find jobs elsewhere.
