This is totally rediculous using taxpayers money to fund criminals to go to college! What about all the kids and adults that owe thousands of dollars on school loans who will be paying them off the rest of their lives? Also, what happens after their degree? Do they go out and take all the jobs that the average citizen cannot get or is not qualified for? Will murderers and rapists be walking our campuses? This is absurd and King Cuomo should be impeached immediately! This is nothing but a vote grab for him and his cronies come November! Won't this encourage crime with the idea that people can "go to prison" just to get a college education! What does an inmate put on his college application? That he has been in "prison for the last 20-25 years? And also, what college is going to accept inmates, murderers, burglars, rapists, etc. Whatever one is is, I'm certainly going to that college! I applaud Mr. Grisanti for sticking to his guns on this one and voting no against something King Cuomo is once again ramming down out throats with a public referendum! I only wish Mr. Grisanti would not have jumped ship for the gay/lesbian marriage proposition and changed his vote to yes instead of no, when he was voted into office on the premise that he would vote "no" for gay/lesbian marriage!

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! This is just ridiculous! This is kind of like telling adolescents to commit a crime and they can still get a college education without a problem...I don't think so!

Why educate prisoners that are just going to get out of prison and go back to their old ways, and most likely end up back where they were. Everyone should work for a college education, not have it served to them on a silver platter.

My sons, who are very good human beings who give back to the community, pay $38,000 per year for their bachelors education. Help them instead!

No free education for inmates. Give it to single parents that need it for their children.

There are to many young people that need funding for higher education that have never broken nys laws. Inmates already get free health care, food and housing.

Senseless. Although I am also in favor of rehabilitation for those whom really would benefit, I know from trying to help others in this situation get jobs. Applications always ask if you were ever convicted of a felony or incarcerated. Many of the college required postions require a background check and will not hire anyone having convictions for over 10 to 12 years. Where would the return on investment be? Even if they had a college degree at taxpayers expense, they most likely wouldn't get hired until some time has passed on their release. Most are already repeat offenders which is why they are incarcerated anyway or severity of the crime.

Not fair to honest and hard working individuals that have to get student loans and not be handed everything that this country seems to have become.

Why should we reward prisoners for bad behavior? Education is free K-12, and they obviously did not take advantage of it then. I am struggling to send one child thru college and have a second starting in September. Should I teach them to be criminal so they can get free room and board and a college education? I have never broken the law, or any member of my family, where is our reward for being responsible citizens.

A waste of tax-payer money, and more incentive for making a crime.
