These people already broke the law & were convicted, the already get fed & housed on tax payer $. Many of them have free access to a Gym, Library, Cable TV, Internet, etc. there are plenty of people living on the street that have nothing. I haven't had cable TV in over 15 years. I wrote a blank check & handed it to our Govt. & paid into the GI Bill so that I could go to college. Giving it people that have such a disregard to societies rules should not be rewarded with free education, when so many good citizen cannot afford it.

Do not spend the money on college for inmates! How about grants to well deserving college kids; or subsidies to the state schools!

Seriously? Get them counseling that they need to convert themselves and educate the students who want a career, who want to learn but can't afford college. Put toward the unempoyment extension.

That is disgraceful. They need to pay for this. Make them do work inside the prison to pay for their education!

Give free college to our children here who have worked hard and earned it, not to incarcerated prisoners.

As a teacher in a severely underfunded district perhaps spending more money on the kids that are in public schools could possible lead to less prisoners

Here we go again with wasteful spending! What is wrong with our government? Between Cuomo ruining NYS and Obama ruining the country we need our state and federal law makers to wake up and show some back bone and stop this nonsense !!!

This is ridiculous. I have put two daughters through college and am in debt. My husband and i both work and always have. Gov. Cuomo, I thought the SAFE Act was your waterloo, but this is even dumber than that.

I am outraged by this proposal. This is another example of a waste of taxpayer dollars. A college degree will not deter someone from a life of crime. If prisoners want to take college classes they should have to pay for them like the rest of us. Isn't it enough that they get free room and board? How do you explain this to all of the law abiding citizens with outstanding student loans? Gov Cuomo needs to go!

Why should inmates get a college education at our expense for disobeying the law when good people can't afford to go to college!

If the state has that amount of excess money, maybe we could start lowering state taxes, sorry, that seems to make sense to me....

what would you rather have, student loan payments or a criminal record? I think most people would prefer the former.

Why should non law abiding people be rewarded for bad behavior at the expense of law abiding people. If they want a higher education then serve the prison term, get a job and apply for loans like anyone else has too.

Not when my daughter and her parents have hugh loans for 10 or more years. Unspeakable that Governor Cuomo would even think this should happen. Let Governor Cuomo pay our student loans.
