This statue signifies placing one culture as superior to another because it means that the genocide of one people is acceptable by another people. As a 23 year old I can say this is not a statue that I would like to see whenever I go to see that place of the world, and I'm not Taino.

I say this statue is a slap in the face of my ancestors and family currently living on the Island to be reminded of the mass genocide which killed my ancestors.

I was stunned, to find out that this is happening! I've never been home, but my families lineage are tied to the Taino tribes, and I'm appalled at the thought of a statue being erected to honor the man that led a mass genocide on the indigenous peoples of Puerto Rico. That's like erecting a statue of Hitler in Jeruselem. It's just not right.
