Say No To Cazenovia's Annexation Request

I strongly believe in smart, planned growth for our community that contributes to our sustainability. At present time there is no economic development group that promotes our community for storefronts to get filled. This should be a priority, not rewarding Mr Muraco with larger storefront spaces that could turn up empty at a future point in time. Other communities have sent economic development leaders into our community seeking expansion for them. Those included have been Hamilton, Manlius, Cortland and Ithaca. Each coming to local businesses extending the idea that we expand into their communities. With tax breaks given, what is the true reality for our village income? When do we really see profitability vs when Mr. Muraco sees it? Larger stores simply means larger cash flow for him. I would love to see the flow charts for our village before we encourage big box stores to enter our community which opens it up to other big box stores.

At least we inspired Walmart to drop plans to build on Rt 20 east years ago. We developed a plan and then, unfortunately, ignored it too many times since. Let's not violate the plan any more.

Cazenovia's great beauty and historic charm are irreplaceable. I strongly oppose this annexation proposal and any which are in conflict with the Comprehensive Plan.

I'm completely confused as to why the town spends time and money on a Comprehensive Plan and a proposal such as this is even on the table. The Plan was created (and our tax dollars spent) to avoid this, and to make sure that our town's future is in our hands, and moving in the direction that's best for the town.

A lot of people come here to see a pretty village. They're not going to come if it gets desecrated by the proposed rural sprawl. If it's our elected officials, we should kick them out. I do a weekly live 'old jazz' program each Thursday from Syracuse, on 87.7 FM (and streaming) from 5-7 PM and I can do or say anything I want. I'm inviting anyone who really understands Cazenovia to stop by and say whatever they want. We reach about 3,000 square miles in CNY, and stream all over the place - with the interesting order of listeners being DC first, then Tokyo, then back to Syracuse, before NYC, Atlanta, etc. I spend a lot of time talking about Cazenovia over the air. As I've written in the Cazenovia Republican, I'm opposed to the current plan to bring Aldi's and Rite Aide to our Route 20 village entrance. -John M. Druke

As a real estate agent, it has been my experience that newcomers to Cazenovia decide to locate here precisely because it is a quaint town, without a lot of big box stores. I believe that Aldi's would be the first domino is a succession, that would ultimately change the character of our town - iIF left unchecked.

Deliberate for future generations. Be grateful for and keep what makes Cazenovia unique.

I would not vote for anything in which Muraco is involved because I've seen too much damage left in the wake of his businesses--Temples, Waffleworks, the Manlius gym, to name a few.

There is a way to enhance our community's economic health without forever compromising it's aesthetic beauty and charm. It demands patience, creativity and passion in maintaining those attributes we all love. We must hold our elected and appointed officials accountable for this. As a participant in the Cazenovia Area Planning Project and most recent comprehensive plan I am angered that we have ignored their function as a roadmap for our future for the instant gratification of big box development. What a complete waste of hundreds of thousands of dollars... For decades we could take comfort in knowing individuals like Faith Knapp were ever-present at meetings to protect the many things that make Cazenovia special. In her absence (and honor) all of us need to be more vigilant and make sure that our voices are heard. Professionally I have yet to have a buyer express joy at the thought of commercial sprawl to the east. To the contrary, buyers seem perplexed that this development is being seriously considered in Cazenovia. In conclusion, I am absolutely pro economic development when it is done with care, transparency and a vision for the future. Let's slow down and do it right.

This is part of the whole history of the town and its planning boards not paying attention to the will of the people living in Cazenovia and just abdicating to the developers,always in fear that they will sue! Where is real leadership?

I don't believe that this annexation proposal is consistent with the Comprehensive Plan, in which I and many others participated. The proposal does not represent smart growth and I don't see any benefits to the village or town of Cazenovia.

Abide by the Comprehensive Plan. Village and town officials need to have the courage to stand by existing regulations and not give in to pressure from those whose motives are for their own profit.

Keep Caz the way it is!

This is irrevocable! Why???? Finances are not the only issues - if they even really add up...

We need to have more possibilities for planning our development Before approving annexation. We also need more trust in our developer.

I came here in 1954 to a charming village and Route 20 with history and that is what is important to Cazenovia...to have the historical background preserved. I am not in favor of this annexation. We need to support our merchants in the Historic Business District.
