As members of the Saint Claude/Bywater neighborhood, we are petitioning in reference to the application for a license to sell liquor at the proposed gas station and service mart located at the suggested address of 4401 N. Robertson Street in the Upper Ninth Ward. As a neighborhood we are OPPOSED to this establishment due to concerns regarding:
- Traffic Safety Concerns due to the fact that this is highly congested intersection to begin with, and an added establishment would cause and create more traffic accidents and further traffic congestion. Additionally, the safety of BIKERS and PEDESTRIANS who are wishing to utilize the main walkways as well as gain access to the post-office adjacent to the proposed building site. This area are put into jeopardy by allowing an establishment to congest the road way due to the volume of automobile users attempting to access the gas station entrance.
- Liquor sales in an area which is already highly saturated with establishments that already sell liquor and convenience store items. There is a convenience store that sells liquor and quick service items already located 2 blocks away from the proposed site. There is also a gas station 3 blocks away from the proposed site on the other side of the Claiborne bridge. There is no need to add any more of these business establishments to a highly residential area that wishes to maintain its quite residential nature.
- Light and Noise pollution will vastly affect the residential inhabitants of the neighborhood which have worked tirelessly to create a child friendly, safe, and quiet space.
- Litter from this establishment in a residential neighborhood which is already struggling with an abundance of trash on a regular basis.
- Public Safety Concerns regarding loitering, drug and alcohol, and crime occurrences happening in a highly residential quiet neighborhood.
We request a dis-continuance of permitting and licensure to the proposed liquor license application located at the building site of 4401 N. Robertson due to the opposition of neighborhood constituents who highly reject this proposed addition to our peaceful area of the Upper Ninth Ward.

The emails to the city office continue to go unanswered but the lack of communication does not mean we are stopping. I am exhausted by the constant uphill battle against these developers who ignore our neighborhood needs. We are still here and we are not going anywhere.

Seeing this momentum grow has been exhausting but it proves that our neighborhood is not willing to be ignored. The amount of support we have gained shows that the push for safety and peace in our streets is worth the fight.

I live in the Bywater neighborhood, a few short blocks from the proposed site. I am against any new liquor outlets. I have one at my corner, right across from a high school, and can speak first-hand to the loitering, nuisance, trash and criminal behavior that liquor outlets bring on. We have more liquor stores than churches in this neighborhood and we don't need anymore.l
This area of the Bywater/St. Claude neighborhood is already congested with significant traffic throughout the day and it's even worse during peak traffic hours. Aside from the traffic congestion issues this gas station will create, it will also add to the amount of litter which is extremely prevalent up and down Claiborne Avenue and N Robertson.
I am purchasing a home in the 1400 block of Poland Ave and I oppose this completely understand. I also own 4537 St Claude and have a major stake in this area. Terribly unsafe intersection.
Please consider the neighbors when you make your decision. Have you ever seen Poland when the bridge is up? I can't imagine how cars will able to navigate at this location.

This proposal is not a "need" of the neighborhood. There are many gas fueling options under a half mile form this proposed site and there is not lack or spots to by liquor in this area. We do not need this and further more the building of this gas station will cause traffic issues and problems. I have owned my home on Kentucky street for 8+ years and I have already seen what a little bridge traffic does to our small neighborhood. Why do we need more Booze when we do not even have a proper grocery store in our area? If City Hall is about bring this city in to the next positive chapter of our history then why support the selling of more booze. Any one can clearly see that the gas stations that sell Liquor become hubs of petty crime, drug selling and drunks. Preserve our quiet neighborhood and vote NO.

This neighborhood can not handle a package liquor store. We already have a severe drug problem in the area with people congregating around package liquor stores. The store very close by on France street has had 3 owners and none of them have been able to improve the neighborhood despite their efforts to do so. Unfortunately this neighborhoods problems go beyond just having a good owner.
