Will spoil the local environment, the rural identity of this area and destroy the wildlife. Why not fix and repair the VAST amount of disused housing in Berkshire instead of destroying what little green land we have left? GREED and nothing more.

Thatcham is to crowded as it is, with added houses the traffic will be a nightmare, especially the train level crossing!

THESE HOMES WILL GO TO PEOPLE ALREADY LIVING IN THE AREA, THIS IS NOT A COMPLETE INCREASE IN POPULATION. This is a housing estate belonging to a local housing association, the homes will be going to people who are already living in this community but not in their own homes, people on the local housing list who need housing, THERE ARE CURRENTLY HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE IN NEWBURY ON THE COUNCILS WAITING LIST WAITING TO BE HOUSED, BUT THERE ARE NO PROPERTIES. These homes will go to people in Local Hostels (Homeless hostels, young people's hostels e.g, the YMCA), They will go to young people e.g those that are 18 and have to leave care, children s homes,fostering,etc, People in Refuges (Womens refuge, etc) will be given homes, Those in social care will be housed , Those that are living with their families e.g young families living with their parents, as they can't afford anywhere else.

Other arguments I have seen: " we only have 1 secondary school. Half of Thatchams children already have to travel to Newbury" Over the last few years, there have been fewer numbers in our schools, with smaller class sizes, having worked in schools, I have seen the merger of classes because of the lack of numbers. I am aware this may have changed but I am sure if this has, the developments and improvements made to Trinity, Park House and St Barts all cover and allow for the growth in numbers. You need evidence form the schools that they are struggling to cope with the amount of pupils before you argue this. If there are too many children for the schools to cope with regulations are in place that means the council will need to provide more schools. As for the travel issue, many children, over many years/generations, have had to travel to school, my sister traveled from Newbury to attend the Downs school at Compton (She caught a bus), My Mum travelled From Ball Hill to The Clere School, involving either a 8 mile walk or a bus journey along country roads. My friend Traveled from Peasemore to Newbury college everyday on a pushbike. It does not affect a child in a negative way to travel to school, Parents can provide lifts, they can travel by bus, or they can cycle or walk (the exercise is good for them)

People say : "Our doctors surgeries are struggling, we don't have an a and e dept, or a maternity unit," Firstly, most of these homes will go to people already currently in the area and registered at local Doctor's Surgeries, and using local services. There are currently hundreds of people in this area whom are homeless or/and others who are on the housing list waiting for a home to live in. so are already the numbers using all of these facilities and services. But there is also the fact that surgeries are already expanding to allow for the growth of our communities, Eastfield house surgery on St johns road has recently expanded, adding more treatment rooms, more doctors, etc. St Marys and Northcroft are looking to merge, in order to expand and provide a bigger better service. If our community grows and there is more need that can lready be coped with, then surgeries will expand, or more will be provided. Secondly "We don't have an A&E or a Maternity Unit, I understand the concern but we have currently never warranted the need for one, if the population increases to the number where there is the need, the hospital will expand to accommodate the need, until then we have three great hospitals locally Reading, Basingstoke, and Swindon, who are all close enough and well enough equipped to cope with the numbers. They already do a fantastic job too.

The top of the petition states : We, the undersigned do not want the proposed A2 Dominions Housing Estate at Seige Cross, Thatcham for the following reasons: " This clearly says the housing will belong to a housing association, which means they will be a mix of social housing for those in need , and affordable housing for those on low incomes and for those in key-worker positions (doctors,nurses,teachers,etc) who are looking at part buys. None of theses homes will be available to people who can buy them to rent, or buy them to increase the property market.

Can anyone else provide further information, the petition states only a few points, some relevant and understandable, but some without clear argument or proof. I searched West Berkshire Council's website and could not find anything about this. I understand peoples concerns but i also recognize the need for social and affordable housing. I am one of 100 people, of just one of the many local hostel systems, who each week along with hundreds of other people on the housing list,bid for the smallest amount of available housing. (some weeks only 3 available properties available compared to a couple of hundred bidders.) This housing is very much needed, It will belong to a housing association so will benefit those in need not potential developers as i say, more information is needed before people embark on petitions. Facts are needed before arguments can be made.

The area can not support the influx, the provisions are insufficient, the proposed plans are vague enough to allow deviation just like they did in Dunstan park and Kennet Heath.
