Changing this event to one day is very wrong. What kind of message are you transmitting to the black communities? It's okay for other ethnic group to have more than one of celebration and not Afro Canadian? Who's idea was this? Why not make changes on all festivals? This is how we celebrate "multiculturalism" ?? And this how this city wants to make everyone welcomed?

I remember going to Afrofest and seeing our now mayor campaigning and photo opping for votes. Now he's the mayor, where's he for afrofest?

This is an important multicultural family festival that should remain at least 2 days each year if not expanded to a longer festival. The city should make every effort to ensure the success of this important community-building event. I have attended every year and look forward to the future of Afrofest.

It's the only thing us africans can hold on to. Torontorians love afrofest. It's not just a african festival, but a celebration for Torontorians tasting african food. This is not be mix with Caribana for those who don't like to see more black people celebrating. There's no violence incidents at this event. People get to see Kassav for free. Which event in Toronto does that?!

There is a concerted squeezing of African Centered/focused festivals. Caribana has been wrung out and left to sputter in need of life support; even though it had been used extensively to promote Toronto and Canada as a tourist destination...diversity...multicultural...etc. Caribana has outlived its usefulness to the city and country so its almost become a footnote. Afrofest appears to be headed for the same path even though many cultural festivals that are more recent are embraced and welcomed.
Festivals that may create some kind of economic benefits for Racialized darker skinned peoples are carefully controlled and monitored with the hopes of squeezing them to fit a preconceived notion of what is just tolerable.

We need our African roots and days respected,we have the right to celebrate our culture,this is the only way we can share it and pass it to the next generation of African origin.
