This is a great event should be maintained as it has been in the past. As far as noise levels, sorry, we do not live in some quaint, quiet little retirement villa here in the Beach. We live in a big city, with a big vibe, Afrofest being part of that. While certainly in need of some restrictions, I for one am disturbed at Queen St being like a ghost town after 8.00 p.m. on any given night. Continued efforts to shut down Cosmo like activities will leave us with the fast food joints that turn over annually as their leases renew and the nail bars and hair salons that we seem to becoming infamous for.

If it's about noise. Get rid of taste of the danforth. The air show at the CNE , the Indy, beaches jazz festival and pretty much every other festival!!!

Its sad that the City of Toronto is choosing to hinder the celebration of African Canadian Pride in the name of it being 'too loud'. It's an unfair and biased complaint considering the many eurocentric events that block off entire streets, are unequivocally just as loud and have an overall greater impact on commuters and residents in the city. As tax payers we deserve the right to showcase and celebrate our history and pride as Black Canadians in our city and not to be discriminated solely on biased grounds of this black event singularly exceeding all other city events in causing 'too much noise'. That, is a lie and really upsets me. And the fact that I have to write in to explain that to LEADERS of our communities that should be uniting and celebrating the diversity of Toronto's people, is even more upsetting. Whether you are a fan or not, Afrofest deserves the respect of city leaders just like other eurocentric and equally loud events in Toronto are given.

As a Leslieville resident, Afrofest is absolutely welcome in my backyard. It is one of the few multi-day free concert events in the city. It is family friendly and brings people from across the world to our little neck of the woods. I am very disappointed by the lack of leadership on the part of Councillor McMahon and the city.

How can a festival that peacefully attracts so many people be cancelled. I'm sure it must be a financial windfall for the area as well. One hundred and twenty thousand people can't be wrong.

Too often I see the city press down on independently-organized cultural events on the pretence that there are rules to follow, and then happily support other events that are allowed exceptions to those rules. The numerous and varied events, festivals and institutions are among the best parts of our city, and they contribute to its cultural fabric. There should be more support and encouragement, and fewer barriers.

STOP Double standard. Is Afrofest more intrusive than JAZZ festival on Queen St where is so close to residential establishments on its long stretch. We love both and would like to keep the culture. Next year are you gonna cancel caribana or OVo After party b/c of incidents?
