Afrofest is one of Toronto's cultural gem of the summer, it bring in revenue as well as unity to our city. Are we thinking of shortening Jazz Fest?

Afro fest is a festival that brings our african culture together in celebration. Eliminating one day is absurd and unfair due to a little misunderstanding/mistake. I bet all other events have made some mistakes but have not been handed the law this way. This is pure discrimination. What a shame in this day and age. Is this what we are teaching our children?

Other festivals all over the city that are representative of European, Latino, and Asian cultures are full weekends long. Why should this be any different? Why is this the only festival targeted to reduce and limit their presence? Show some equality to the community members in Toronto representative of all cultures and maintain the traditional weekend-long duration of Afrofest.

Stop trying to prevent our black culture from thriving. Why don't you end all the festivals for other cultures as well? We as black people have faced enough scutiny. Afro fest is a time where we come together and enjoy each others presence, why would toronto want to end that ?

Black history is Canadian history. African culture is in it's essence Canadian culture. Toronto's ethnic diversity is exactly what attracts people to it throughout the year. Yes the poutines are great but I promise you that it's the cultural/ethnic diversity that stands as it's quintessential cornerstone. The type of disparate treatment to a festival that brings families and communities together must be stopped. I will add that this is why it is so important to vote and use your civic tools to call out public leaders who are here for certain groups only. I urge those outside of Toronto to sign and also make it a point to share issues facing communities of colour in your cities. Solidarity can bring change. The same type of discrimination is happening to predominantly Black gatherings in major cities across the U.S and we must again choose solidarity. We must use our voices and influence wherever we are to stop it. Members of the city council and involved boards--stop this discriminatory treatment. Don't just tout Toronto's diversity factor when it suits you. Actually engage in work that supports and protects this valuable asset.

I am a US Citizen who has lived in the GTA since 1996. Of all African Festivals I have seen in North American this is one of the purest in terms of African Music and one of the most peaceful festivals I have seen ever. The Mayor and economic development chair Micheal Thompson should show leadership and support this positive event.

This festival is an important reflection of the diversity that exist in Canada. For those who complained, don't fear the unknown, because if you did know, you would be among the people in the crowd. Embrace African culture and be enriched by the experiance. This also goes to you councilors, karibu!
