Dear President Knight and Clark College Board of Trustees:
The undersigned individuals strongly support the Clark College Paralegal Program and are requesting that the proposal to terminate the program be immediately rescinded.
We are each members of the Clark County Community, either as judges, attorneys, judicial assistants, court staff, paralegals, graduates of the program, and/or current and past students of Clark's paralegal program. Many of us have employed or worked with students who attended the Clark College paralegal program and have benefited from the instruction and education they received from the program. Eliminating the paralegal program from Clark College will have a direct impact on our community and the legal profession, which relies heavily on the ability to hire individuals who have graduated from a quality education program specifically geared toward Washington laws and procedure. Clark College is the only such program in our area, which offers face-to-face instruction and practical applications of Washington material.

I have many high school students that leave my program each year with a specific goal of attending this program. Students in Vancouver are unlikely to attend a similar program out of the area. The support of the legal community for this program is remarkable. Please reconsider.
Cutting a program that actually makes money and rolls out employable students at graduation is a bad idea. There is already an inability to meet the access to justice need. Eliminating this program will only further elongate that shortage.
I have had the honor of mentoring several of the paralegal students through the internship program. The paralegal program does a great job getting the students ready for a career in the legal field. They come so well-prepared that I have hired two of the paralegals straight out of the program.
I have been a lawyer for almost 20 years and personally taught in the Clark College paralegal program for several years. I was extremely impressed with the students and have seen many of them gainfully employed in the legal community. This is a vital program to our legally community and should not be cut.
We have hired at least 4 paralegals from the Clark program to work at our law firm over the past 10 years. The program supplies many law firms in town with excellent employees, many of which go on to work in the court system as clerks or judicial assistants. Please do not eliminate this program.

The paralegal program is the reason for my selecting Clark college as my academic venue. The ability to achieve ABA accreditation will give me the opportunity to become an LLLT, allowing me to serve the local low income families.
