It's tough to see when a city the size of Des Moines closing a school all for budget cuts $$$ and not the kids

When I went here it was called south Alternative. I could not have went as far as I did in school with out this school. I went to 4 different high schools with this being my last. I became a mother when attenting and this was only option at the time. Scavos teachers are amazing and work so hard with the students. Please reconsider closing this school. So many people have graduated from alternative school as to des moines public school and that is all because of the alternative scavo. Keep scavo alive!!

My uncle Jim Carnahan impacted many lives through his years of education young people at this school. I cannot count the number of times I have met someone or they have read my name and have asked if I new Jim Carnahan, and then in turn shared how he helped them change their lives. I know he did not work alone at Scavo High School and to abandon the the work that he and his colleagues did, as well as abandon the future generations that need this same help, to do that shows a lack of compassion for the youths.

Scavo is a great school to catch up and be able to have a second chance in school to graduate, the staff helps way more than their payed for and go above and beyond for their students. Online programs are not for everyone!!! They are more distracting and less effective in teaching students.

Without Scavo my daughter would not of graduated from high school. She had a wonderful experience there.

As a past juvenile court liaison at Scavo a personally know the value of the institution and necessity. Please keep this great enriching environment for those that struggle in public school settings. Please!

Without this school, myself and so many others may have never had the chance we were given to get a high school education. It’d be so sad to see the possibility of discontinuing Scavo.

I went to Scavo, helped me a lot. Sometimes I wish I graduated from there, but they helped me get back in school

I was a quarter of a credit short of graduating from my high school. They wanted me to go to a whole semester of school. I walked into Scavo and told them my problem. I was already working full- time job. They gave me a work credit after providing a 80 hr check stub for two weeks and I was a graduate. I was so grateful for Scavo.

Scavo has saved many of my friends, bent over backwards for them just so they could get their diplomas.
