I know so many people that have gone to scavo and their whole entire perception on things changed. They actually want to succeed. Don’t let this school go. It’s changed peoples life.

Closing the school will be detrimental to so many students. I attended the first alternative school in Des Moines back in the 70's and would never graduated without it.

It will be a shame if those in control close Scavo. Not all students fit the traditional high school model, thus the invention of “alternative” programs. Do the right thing!

SCAVO made a very significant impact in my daughters life. She became consumed by the mass majority of distractions at Lincoln High School and began to form into a stigma of yet another statistic, another possible high school drop out. She was falling behind in attendance and became discouraged to thrive educationally. She became pregnant and the school suggested SCAVO as an alternative. She suddenly, with the smaller class sizes and the amazing educators, became committed and engaged in her education. She was dedicated to attend daily and succeed. Once her daughter was born, she took her daughter to school with her and proceeded to reach her goals. She was inspired by the many staff members and she received the support needed to allow success. She was an advocate for the young moms program and worked with WIC to encourage other young mothers to nurse their infants and shared her experiences for balancing teen parenting and active involvement in her education. During her school years at SCAVO she was afforded resources to be self supporting after high school as a single young mom. She obtained her CNA certification during her time at SCAVO was employment directly after graduation as a CNA. Now, 16 years later, she has been raising her daughter and supporting her without government aid or assistance, she has a promising career and continues to promote within her organization. She is still in the medical field and very dedicated. I contribute this success story to the opportunity she was afforded at 16 years old, pregnant and unsure what the future would hold? Because she had the privilege of an alternative school experience, she has now become an example of how important it is to find resources to fund this educational institute and keep this tradition going to share more success stories in years to follow.

Scavo always welcomes students of all backgrounds, races, ethnicity and life styles. A true blessing and alternative for so many students that need something less traditional.

My daughter would have ended up on drugs if it wasn't for Scavo. Instead she met teachers who cared and helped her through her time of need. She ended back in public school. (Carlisle) and graduated on time.
Daughter goes there
