I am an alumnus: BS Ecn '79; MA Ecn 80. I studied philosophy during my MA, and it has served me well during my career as an attorney, legislative policy advisor, and now as an administrative law judge. I didn't major in philosophy, but it was an important part of my undergrad and graduate study. Save Philosophy at UDM!!!

Philosophy is a valuable class, it gets people to think about the way they think and the underlying assumptions of their beliefs. I'll admit, at first I thought it would be a useless class and looked forward to getting it over with when I saw I was required to take it. However, Professor Oljar among others showed me otherwise and I learned valuable tools of wisdom in my philosophy classes.

I really enjoyed the philosophy course I took last year. However, this is not a class I would have chosen to take if there had not been a requirement to do so. I'm so grateful I had this opportunity to consider different ways of thinking that are truly applicable to and advantageous for any career path a student chooses to take, as well as life in general.

When I was first going into this class, I did not want to take it because I am a woman of faith and I was afraid that this course would challenge me in ways I wasn't ready for yet however, This Course has not only opened my eyes to the way the world thinks but it has also strengthened my faith and has allowed me to develop deeper wisdom on ethical issues at hand.

If you can't think straight, you won't be very good at any technical task. UDMercy needs to continue offering philosophy majors and minors so that somebodoy out there can generate good questions -- and maybe some answers -- for the "more practical" types.

If it wasn't for the professors in the philosophy department, I would not have thought the way I did about things. They have all changed my life, and their upper division courses are definitely necessary in making a student that is capable of critical thinking. If it wasn't for courses like PERSON AND SOCIETY, I firmly believe I would have looked at other schools.

The University of Detroit Mercy needs to have these philosophy classes because it helps bring a new perspective to our world. I am a biology major and the few lower level philosophy classes I have taken changed my perspective not only on the world, but on science as a whole. The "out of box thinking" that is philosophy needs to continue because it allows people to be creative.

philosophy was my favourite gen ed course and I believe it should be a mandatory course. It helps open a freshman students mind to the world.

I never thought that philosophy would be sooo interesting but it was! I really enjoyed taking Professor Renaud's course. He is an excellent teacher and I think that UDM should support philosophy!
