Save VAPA at the Shaw

It's very important to have the arts in high school around areas like these in LA for our students. For some that want to pursue a career in the arts this might be the only opportunity they have before going to College and not knowing much. We should do better and give equal importance to the Arts as we do to Sports in schools. Los Angeles as. Whole is known for the Arts

Crenshaw High School is, was and will forever be a staple in the Crenshaw Community and beyond! By no means should the performing arts programs be cut! Studies have shown that within the communities of POC, the arts are often stripped away, without any recognition of the positive impact it has on the lives of young people. The arts are an outlet for many who do not have support outside of school. Please do not cut Crenshaw's programs.

This is such sad news. I was in the dance team in high school and I struggled for a long time but Tarver never gave up on me. Even though I still recovering from back surgery and had no formal training he still encouraged me. Tarver is such an important part of my high school experience and it would break my heart to know that he was fired. As for Ms. Stevenson I had the honor of singing a cover of Alicia Keys If I ain’t got you for a Valentine’s Day event which took place in the library and she played the piano. This will forever be one of my favorite memories. They both mean so much to this school especially to those students who are musically inclined so I hope they stay.

They were instrumental individuals in my life as an emerging adult

They both are the reason Crenshaw remains a legacy you should be ashamed trying to take that away from the kids & the community who love them very much

These are two of the greatest teachers I know, not only were they that but the programs they ran kept and took kids away and out of trouble whether it was from everyday troubles down to gang violence. The least y’all can do is allow them to retire instead of acting like budget cuts was need to be made. Honestly it’s a lot of teachers there that don’t care whether we was learning or not

Ms Stevenson keeps kids together! The world needs more of her

Coach of the Crenshaw state championship team and alumni does not approve this move. People make futures off of Crenshaws arts. Actors Unions make money off of Crenshaws arts. You must let them be.

Arts are a necessary component of education. Through art, young people learn to express themselves constructively, rather than violently causing harm to themselves or others. Start a GoFundMe or reach out to celebrities who might be willing to fund the arts, but don’t give up on the arts.

They deserve to stay at Crenshaw ! They are Crenshaw !

She’s changed so many kids and adults lives through keeping them under her wing , showing them alternative to better their lives , she’s touched everyone that has attended Crenshaw while she’s been there . She’s an amazing force and the school and community NEEDS HER !

Taking performing arts away from CRENSHAW a school with a history of culture is taking away the students creative spaces. Now how will they express themselves in a POSITIVE way, where will they feel comfortable? Also, Professor Stevenson and Mr. Tarver are not just “teachers” at Crenshaw. They’re leaders of the community and role models for past, present and future students with unimaginable musical abilities. They belong with their Crenshaw family until THEY decide otherwise.
