I have taught in the JMP for 9 years. I have consistently been impressed with the quality of the students and the teaching program. We live in an environment where it is difficult to find a primary care doctor with the skills needed to guide patients through difficult illnesses. These are highly impressive students committed to primary care and public health. There is no other medical program with the quality of teaching and students that JMP has produced. They are truly committed to producing physicians that have the skills and interest to care for the whole patient

The UCB-UCSF Joint Medical Program is a unique treasure which has produced two generations of physicians with outstanding clinical and scientific education who are also have a humanistic perspective in conducting their careers. To eliminate this program would constitute consummate folly!

Having been affiliated with the JMP for several years (prior to serving as Vice Chancellor), I believe the JMP offers a superb opportunity for med students to broaden and deepen their intellectual interests that intersect with medicine and the liberal arts.
