Music Education plays a huge role in our public schools. The fact that the band program went to San Antonio and won a competition there not long ago and this happens is absolutely ridiculous. They deserve to keep their jobs. I hope everything goes well for the students and parents at Pinson Valley HS!

I'm not at the high school yet but i will be next yer. Everyone says that you should have the best high school experience ever. I can't have that without these amazing teachers.

We live in Innsbrook behind the high school, both the fine arts teacher and band teacher have impacted his life in a positive way, in a time it was really needed. They are also great teachers and its ashamed to see them let go of their fine arts department...art/music expands your mind; teaches you life lessons, and encourages these kids..My son is so disappointed as am I. Mr. Bearden had made great improvements on our band. The awards he helped these kids win gives them motivation and without it, Im sure there will not be as many fine arts scholarships. This should have been heavily considered.

These teachers have worked hard and turned the programs around. They have taught our kids the meaning of respect & hard work. They deserve appreciation & their jobs, not treated like they didn't mean anything. The fact that they weren't even notified in advance that they were being let go shows the kind of ruthless, non caring individuals managing our school & the county system.

At this point, they have locked us out of our band room...so therefore we can't have our band classes even though our Director is here and ready to work, he can't have class with us. I feel like the least they could do is let us have class for these last couple of weeks...

I was a student of the arts in Jefferson County Alabama, graduating in 1987 from Gardendale High School. I am now 46 and following my dream living in NYC as a playwright, actor and director working on the book for an original Broadway Musical in development. While in Band and Choir at GHS, we competed against PVHS for Trophies, now years later I will stand a proud Rocket with the Indians against this political tyranny, Jeffco Board of Education must end its attack on Arts Programs, Faculty and the Students in Alabama who deserve the right to experience and take part in the Arts. Save the Arts in Alabama Schools, I would not be where I am today without my experiences in high school and the mentoring from the arts faculty at GHS.
It is proven the Arts are key in the healthy development of children. It would be a shame to see them slow vanish from the schools in Alabama and around the country. Something should be done and the people of Alabama need to SPEAK UP!

It obviously sounds like the students and parents have spoken and the difference that these teachers and programs have made has been astounding. The principal's and the School Board's lack of professionalism speaks volumes on the value they (do not) place on good teachers. They first knew of their firings when they saw their positions posted on the job listing website? How classless and tacky. It's sad when teachers who TRULY care and invest their time, as well as their hearts, in to their students and that investment is totally disregarded by administration. These teachers need to keep their jobs!

These firings are ridiculous. It seems like the one who needs to go is the principal. Brandon Triola has been great for Pinson Valley, and they are losing a great teacher and mentor, if this stands. Shameful.
