Speaking to the Assembly Health Committee, Minister for Health Edwin Poots DUP indicated that A&E services would no longer be provided at the City Hospital. We should all make our voices heard that we do not accept this attack on our front-line health services. Waiting lists and pressure on A&E units across the Belfast is already at crisis point. Closing A&E units, where emergency patients are taken who are involved in car accidents, those suffering heart attacks, strokes, falls, critical injuries before we even discuss the fact that in light of the recent riots, we cannot be classed like another area in the UK. This will lead to an impossible strain on remaining services (which are already stretched to breaking limits) and will result in people paying with their lives. Moving services to the North and West of the city, together with the overflow from the Lagan Valley hospital, (due to their already reduced A&E) is not viable on any level. Claiming that Belfast City Hospital is moving to more planned surgeries and procedures without figures suggesting that there has been a decline in the demand and genuine need for the A&E service is beyond belief. To quote stopthecutsni .. "It was only last year the City’s emergency surgery team was removed due to cuts. The closure of A&E at the City is a step towards closing the City Hospital and must be determinedly resisted by the entire community." If you are taken ill, what harm will come to you or your family members, if they have to travel further before receiving specialist treatment or indeed have to queue up in corridors until you can be treated, or will it be too late???? Can you really afford to sit back and let the Health Minister whose party promised us so much in the run up to the elections, decimate the health of our people?? You or your family members or friends could need this service at any time.

Ridiculous decision. We need more services not less! Leave our A&E alone.

My son was taken to the city after a crash and the staff were incredible. Without that unit he might not be here today. Do not close it!

The city hospital is a lifeline for so many people in this area. If they close this down people are going to die waiting for ambulances to get all the way across town. Madness.

What about the people who dont drive? Getting anywhere else is a nightmare. Think about the elderly for once.

Already impossible to get an appointment anywhere. Closing the city is just asking for a disaster.

SHAMBOLIC. The health service is falling apart and the politicians just want to make things worse. Keep it open.
