I learnt to swim at this pool and now manage two pools in Seattle. People have to learn how to swim, particularly in a coastal city. Annual deaths by drowning rise more and more every year and available pools such as this one need to stay open to ensure safety for children.

We believe this is one of only two remaining school pools available for community hire in the city. If the closure is approved by the City Council, it will be a major loss to the community and to huge numbers of children that learn to swim in the pool every year.

Director of Children's Services
Portsmouth City Council, of 18th. January 2017, reads as follows:
"Once, a proposal has been agreed, there will be an opportunity for the local community to provide feedback on the proposed plans."
By announcing the closure now, have the Head and Governors jumped the gun?

THOUSANDS of children benefit from this pool every single year. It's criminal to close it just to increase the school intake by 65! Keep the pool open!!!!

Why close the swimming pool????? We should be inspiring children to learn to swim. It's a life skill we all need to have! My child wants to swim for Great Britain, so please don't take the pool away. Otherwise your taking children's aspirations away. What hope is there for the next generations to come!

This is a vital asset to the school and the community as a whole, for three generation my family has used this facility as students and as members of the swimming school and we would like to see it maintained for the next to use. Swimming is as we all know one of the best forms of exercise and in this climate of childhood obesity it is vital to maintain such pools.

I urge the council to consider valuable long-term investment in the pool with economic and social benefits, over what is cheaper in the short term, devaluing its own schools and local influence.

Disgraceful how the swim school have been left in limbo with no answers from the school or the council for months! The pool is an asset to the children of Springfield and the surrounding community. Swimming pools are limited in the city for children to learn to swim safely, and living so close to the sea it is essential that children are not denied this opportunity.
