Save Springfield School Pool, Portsmouth

It is a disgrace that the school and council are closing the pool when we live in a town nearly surrounded by water

Please please do not close this pool. Children need to learn to swim just as much as they need to learn to read and write.

I learned to swim there and had many find memories.

Don't close the swimming pool down

Too many pools have been closed in this country. Everyone should know how to swim & learning at school is the only chance some children will get.

I'm from Cairns north Queensland Australia. I do believe that every school should have their own swimming pool. It is an important part of every country's learning curriculum. Come on local council, how on earth will turning this into a gymnasium draw an extra 60 odd students? I think that there is another agenda in the closure of this pool, other than a gymnasium drawing more students. If this is NOT the case, then council should come forward and reassure the public. Keep...it...open!!

I have grown up in Drayton and went swimming at Springfield every week. I have fantastic memories made here. Please don't close it down!!!!!!!!

We petition Portsmouth City Council and Springfield School Governors to reconsider this decision and consider the loss the pool will have to pupils and the wider community. There is no school in the north of Portsmouth which has a pool as large as Springfield.

Learning to swim at a young age saved my life!! Whilst swimming in Portugal with Manor Court Club, where I got into serious difficulties I managed to stay afloat until help arrived, because I was comfortable in the water.

The swimming lessons gave me confidence in being able to swim and taught me how to save someone if they were in trouble in the water. All vital elements that young people need.

Save our swimming pool. It's the only pool available for local schools in this area and is used to teach hundreds of children and adults to learn to swim in an area surrounded by water.

Please do not proceed with the plan to turn the pool into a gym just so that you can increase the school population by a fee dozen more pupils...So many children use this pool every week..I would ask that you reconsider this proposal

Harriet, your Dad was an inspiration - I joined Portsmouth & District Canoe Club on his recommendation & spent many a Sunday in the harbours & the Solent. I was devastated when he passed away so suddenly. Your Dad shaped my life, as any great teacher has the potential to. I feel so sad for you that you lost him so young.

I know many people who learnt to swim here. Prior to the pool, as a pupil of Manor Court we had to go on a coach to Victoria swimming pool. Sad that has gone. Will my grand children not have this as part of their physical education? Such a shame, don't let this close.

I did some hardcore swimming in this pool, taught me a life skill that I've used around the world. Maybe the school needs to reclaim the land that they sold to housing developers as a class room I suppose a Gym will be appeal to the present youth that are going to pump up and get an array of tattoo's. maybe some sunbeds might not go a miss. think again springfield

This pool is an absolute must for our community! I learnt to swim here! And so did my children! It is so rare that a school can add swimming to their curriculum and it adds so much more to an amazing school so close to my heart!
