As valedictorian you have more than earned your right to speak at your graduation! I really hope you do!

Interesting. I wrote and presented a speech on how our education system lacks the proper support for our students to feel good about themselves. If students can't get the proper acknowledgement they deserve, what's to stop them from deteriorating the effort in which they put into their education? I'm truly afraid for our future youth. As a teacher myself, I can't stand unethical treatment - which has even led me to transfer schools because of the corruption the students were faced with. I hope you get the proper support that every student deserves, no matter how little or big their accomplishment is.

Whoever made this decision needs to step up and explain their decision. What is the reasoning behind it? For a high school student who EARNED this right, it is totally unjust!

Stop hurting and bringing down the hard working kids. It is being done more and more. These kids work hard and deserve the recognition. If you want to have another speaker then allow both but do not take this honor away from a person who truly wants to and deserves it!

I've known Shannon for a long time and in that time I've seen what an amazing student and incredible person she is. She deserves to address her class at graduation!

I don't understand why schools keep taking away things that are meant to congratulate students that work so hard academically

Speech is a human right! The administration should have at least asked Shannon before this decision if it was okay. Shame on whoever made this decision and kept it from Shannon.

Why? This is a tradition at every high school and college graduation I have attended or read about in the news! Please bring back the valedictorian speech.

The valedictorian has worked years to earn the right to give a speech. An "audition" for a speech does not take the same effort. What are we teaching our kids?

The valedictorian's speech at the graduation ceremony is a time honored tradition that should continue. It's unfair to the person who has earned the honor and worked so hard to be the class valedictorian. Are the other high school's in loudoun county doing the same?

Why on earth would you have another student speak on the valvictorians behalf?
Speech auditions ? Are you that concerned about your snooty Loudon county apearences to have the best speaker give this speech they did not earn? That's rediculous! Give the
valvictorian their right back to give the speech they earned!

This is tradition and she should be allowed to speak. Unbelievable stupidity on behalf of the school administrators.
