Dear San Diego Airport Authority Board Members,

We are writing to urge you to protect the jobs of the over 250 workers who have given years of their lives to make San Diego Airport a success.  The bartenders, servers, baristas, hostesses, cooks, stewards, maintenance and utility workers at the Airport provide the highest level of customer service and have shown unwavering dedication to the safe and successful operation of the Airport.

Many concessions workers have spent over a decade providing the quality service that drives revenues.  In coming weeks, you will decide fate of these people’s lives.  You will decide if they will be able to support themselves and their families.  And, you will decide to honor their commitment to the airport or treat them as commodities.

You will also be making an important business decision.  Worker retention has helped airports in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and across the nation maintain quality service and consistent revenues through risky transitions.  Retaining an experienced and qualified work force is not only the right thing for workers, but is a smart business decision that will assure a smooth transition to this new concessions model.

We again urge you to do what is right for the Airport and the people who have made it a success, and support worker retention.
