One if my fondest memories as a child was school and summer visits to the museum. Later after I had children, we spent many summers there. The Texas Memorial Museum is an Austin treasure.

As a professional paleontologist that has visited the TMM and studied its collections, I am ardently opposed to any diminution of its budget or capabilities. Texas is one of the richest states in the union and its citizens deserve first-class natural history museums.

The Texas Memorial Museum is an invaluable resource for the public to undertand evolution in a state where ignorance is often favored over education. Moreover, the fossil collection at TMM is one of the most important records of vertebrate evolution in western North America, and is regularly visited by students of life's history from around the world. Please continue to maintain this incredible resource.

In a state where many residents question the reality of evolution, it doesn't make sense to remove one of the only public venues where people can see the evidence for evolution first hand.

I'm 64 years old. We Austinites grew up with that incredible museum. It reflects our heritage. In no way should its funding be cut!
