Every child should have the chance to go to museums to see in person what others have collected and preserved. This museum is an important educational tool which shouldn't be cast aside.

This museum is the closest thing Austin has to a Natural History museum. It is a hallmark of Austin's educational culture, and so important to the community. As a resource for enhancing STEM initiatives for our children, it cannot be replaced. This is an important, inspirational part of the university and the greater community. Please don't cut it!

This is a short-term solution to make at the expense of long-term viability of the Natural Science collections in the TMM. The collection, curation and preservation of natural science materials must be done on an on-going basis as things are found through human endeavors and before they are lost. Cutting the TMM budget is akin to cutting library budgets by taking intermittent subscriptions to important research journals. And there is no digital substitute for original natural science materials!

Cutting funding for the TMM would be a tragic mistake. Many of us can remember how our own love of science was sparked in a museum like the TMM: if Austin's youth loses that opportunity, we impoverish the future.

TMM is a state asset and UT has a responsibility to the countless donors over the past 75 years to properly care for those assets and make them available to the public. It's not a question. This museum has been grossly underfunded for decades.

As a paleontologist, I am appalled at the lack of foresight shown in these cuts. TMM is a repository of natural history objects, whose function is critical in understanding the regional history and biota of Texas.

This facility has been a valuable resource to the education of my children and we often bring visitors to the Memorial Museum to view exhibits that they cannot see else where. We would even be happy to pay a modest fee ($5 a visiting family) to help keep the doors open! Please keep the resource, it is a needed place of knowledge and experience!

With all the assaults on public access to education -particularly in the sciences- I find this proposed cut to the Texas Memorial Museum especially distressing as many institutions seemingly rush to ignorance.
