I have learned so much that I use teaching from their workshops. Up to date science and pedagogy that the kids and I love. We have visited the museum on field trips too. Austin needs this valuable resource fully funded plus more!
Shutting down this gem of a museum is a travesty. Surely when things get tight for a university's budget, educational resources like the TMM should not be on the chopping block.

This is a wonderful resource that should be available for current and future generations. I university with the finicial resources that UT has should not need to get rid of a museum. Find a way to keep this treasure

This is such an important museum for both students and children. My kids love learning all about the wildlife in Texas and the history of our fair state. Please do not close it! Have you thought about charging admission?

As a faculty member at an academic institution with similar budget issues myself, it would seem to me that all colleges and departments should bear the weight of a budge reduction more equitably; however, the incredibly high percentage of this reduction appears to be very directed toward permanent closure of this wonderful instructional facility. When I visited Austin, this was one of the first stops on my tour of the city. Austintonians are understandably proud of the museum, and it has become a significant landmark in the local culture. I would guess that the gate count would speak for itself. It would be sad if the museum had to begin charging admission to the very taxpayers who help fund education and would be a poor reflection on the university's administration. Perhaps if the museum were to compromise and charge a small fee to adult visitors (please permit the children to enjoy the pterosaur and other delights at no charge), the dean and the provost might reconsider such a large targeted cut. I have learned that it is far easier to make one large cut than to try to make numerous smaller ones, but in this case, the extra effort will pay off for years to come.

I was the victim of the first budget cut in 1975 and as the first director of education all the school programs and museum studies courses were eliminated. This was Texas' first State Museum erected to present Texas to the eyes of the world as part of the 1936 Texas Centennial celebrations. FDR "broke" ground and children from across the State sent in their coins to help fund it. Half dollars were minted to assist as well. All of that so we can continue to defund in perpetuity!!!

This is a beautiful museum and it would be an absolute shame to see it go, especially with the recent renovations to the lower level and other new exhibits in the works. So many students and families treasure this museum. It is one of the greatest assets to the UT campus. It must be preserved.
