Cutting down the trees on Midland Road would be a disaster111

I was born & raised in nearby Lee County/Sanford, NC. As a horselover, I came to know the beauty & adventure of Southern Pines/Pinehurst at an early age when coming to this area where horses & other animals are at the top of the social ladder. Now that we own property in Southern Pines I often have a grand opportunity to see the beauty of this area firsthand. The Midland Road median with those lovely official North Carolina state trees, the pines, always make me proud to be from NC, where beauty in nature & animals bring us humans comfort & companionship in our hurried day to day lives. So now, WHY should the DOT toatlly destroy this gift of nature, the majestic pines of Midland Road, in order to keep humans safer ?? The trees may, from time to time, need to be pruned or some even removed IF they are directly in the pathway of traffic. BUT not ALL of them should be totally taken out because some people are reckless drivers & the DOT sees the ONLY answer to that is to totally destroy the Good Lord's gifts to us. I already have the DOT at the bottom of my "unapproved list" because they demolished the only home I knew when growing up in Sanford since they put our home right in the midddle of a cloverleaf & then made us move so they could destroy our home down to the last brick when bypass US # 1 was being built. So now as for Midland Road, I vote NO WAY should the DOT destroy the natural beauty of our Midland Road ! Just get our Moore County / Southern Pines / Pinehurst officials to vote "NOT in our Backyard !!" We need to have our police / law enforement officials to be more diligent in helping to enfore our laws to keep us safer. I will be looking & listening for you officials to DO the RIGHT thing in voting NO to such an idea concerning Midland Road. Thanks, ahead of time, for your support in voting NO for this project. Midland Road is indeed historic and is a significant point of interest in the Southern Pines/Pinehurst area. Every day when I drive along that road, I get great comfort from the peacefulness and beauty that it exhibits. To destroy this beautiful sight is short-sighted. Not one study indicates that the beautiful trees are the cause of accidents. Enforcement of traffic regulations is lacking. Don't cut down the trees because the state & towns will NOT enforce the law!

I live on Midland Road and I see people run stop lights several times a week! The trees are not the problem. Destruction of our ecosystem should be an absolute last resort. Lowering the speed limit to 35 makes the most sense, for safety and for budget.
