Mindless, needless destruction. The very reason we chose Southern Pines instead of Raleigh was to be part of a unique natural and historical town. This will make us like any other suburban sprawl. Drivers are responsible for their own driving and paying attention at the wheel ,not DOT. Spend the money renovating route 1 in SP, it needs the repairs. Would like to know who is pushing for Midland to be ruined. There has to be business profit behind this.

Travel this road for 20 Years from Pinehurst to Southern Pines - it is one of the greatest pleasures of living here - the road should be historically designated and protected - the only accidents I've ever noticed were outside of Carolina Eye where people obviously were leaving with dilated pupils - something that should be addressed elsewhere.

I agree. I see 35 mph signs in neighborhoods and other areas with several obstacles next to the roads.

Make the Carolina Eye entrance sign on Midland Road larger, so old people with vision issues can see it. Now that is a safety issue...not Midland Road.
